[Baren]: The mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking. Baren Digest Sunday, 28 December 1997 Volume 01 : Number 027 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Bill Mixon Date: Sat, 27 Dec 1997 13:53:40 -0500 Subject: [Baren 124] Re.: Mulberry for papermakers Hi Dave, Thank you, that article was excellent! I know that craft mainly through what I've read, supplemented by what I've seen and heard watching a few teachers, and my own still-clumsy attempts to "do it". I feel I know a little more now having read that... As an aside, some interesting decorative papers are made by leaving flecks of the dark outer bark ("chiri") in the pulp. Useless for printmaking, but attractive for other things like bookbinding. Paper entrepreneurs have tried and tried, to mechanize the removal of chiri, but nothing seems to work quite as well for this as a laughing, storytelling grandparent! There's hope the job may still be available when you turn eighty... I couldn't resist following the links, and spent a few pleasurable hours reading other backissues. I got a chuckle from the picture of your "helper" in the introduction to newsletter #4 (Summer 1991); we have a cat very much like that, her name is Melody. Well, must go now, to an evening of theater in Boston, a Christmas gift from my wonderful wife Joy. Bye till next time.
