To some extent I share this view, and if it weren't for Dave Bull, I'm quite sure I would not be much of a Web user myself. Context, context. I recently ran across a paper on the 'Net I found fascinating, to do with the influence of Japanese prints on Van Gogh, Monet; not only formal and aesthetic influences but also religious or spiritual: http://lama.kcc.hawaii.edu/asdp/art/easian/japan/beaucham.html Now this helped me to feel that on the 'Net might be created little backwaters and 'fertile gardens', even amidst what seems to be a lot of confusion and advertising and time-consuming junk. What does it take to make a fertile garden? My wife and I made a discovery some years ago when we put up a wall all around our garden. Defining the garden limits from the surrounding fields: this wall 'makes' the garden. So is this what makes this "Baren" work? Centered on a particular activity? Limited to subscribers?
