Those are the kind that are used for begining woodcutters in college and art center classes. I also purchased a set of tools at a hobby shop, I think. Or perhaps I got it mail order from Daniel Smith, I don't remember. I also purchased a set of tools at Hida in Berkeley. They will sharpen a woodcutting tool for $2 if if they have the time. All these tools work reasonably well, but the $12.95 sets are definitely not for professional artists who expect to create many woodcuts over the years. I am lucky that my colleagues liked one of my woodcuts enough to put it on the cover of a catalog. That's really an honor for me. It doesn't restrict me to that style, but it definitely is an encouragement. The chief of medical services at the local hospital asked me to create some greeting or thank you cards for the doctors there. I have received a lot of medical care at local hospitals and clinics over the years and I am grateful that I am still alive., so I am glad to do it for them. I have started an edition of landscapes on Domestic Etching paper, using Cobalt blue ink (from Graphic Chemical). They are actual prints, not cards, but I think they will serve as thank-yous for the doctors. Cobalt blue is a very pretty blue, close to but not exactly the same as cyan (cyan is a process color). My fiance worries about the chemicals I use in printmaking, but I tell him I am trying to use safe procedures, with lots of ventilation. He reminds me of safety procedures once in a while and I am grateful to him for that too. I don't know if he will be mentioning it here on [Baren], but if past experience is anything to go by, I suspect perhaps not ... Matt Brown has made another major update to his web site, including the addition of some very interesting new prints. One of them is particularly interesting - located at the 'bottom' of his 'Studio' page, it shows a picture (and I mean _picture_!) of his workspace. My guess is that it took seven blocks ... but I think I might be on the low side. Can anybody else get closer?
