I need it bad. : ) : ) Thanks, Gayle Wohlken Box 287 Burton, Ohio 4402l-0287 ------------------------------ From: julio.rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Thu, 16 Apr 1998 15:33:08 -0600 Subject: [Baren 647] video....rewind Hi Gayle, I will be happy to put you on the list. The tape is about a 25 minutes interview with Dave and it shows him at work and also meeting with several people discussing his prints. However...it is all in Japanese! Near the end Dave is explaining his internet web-site and print series and you also get to see a little bit of Matt's prints. However if you are looking for an instructional type video this is not it. It does gives you a wonderful insight into our Dave's world. I'm relatively new to the world of printing. I did some work at the Art Students League in New York City and basically got interested in woodcut and linocut because my instructor was this psycho etching teacher who actually tested his acid bath by sticking his hand in the acid to see what color his skin turned (not for me -- I try to avoid soaking in a lot of toxic chemicals. But that's just me.). Anyway, I moved to San Francisco about four years ago and did a lot of hand printing of wood and lino. I learned technique by just doing it and so far I've been really happy. I had a small show last year and was admired for my "raw" technique (which I thought was a really nice way to say that I was messy **regardless, I took it as a complement). Now I'm moving to LA this summer and I'm having really bad luck finding people who do any sort of relief printing at all. I'm looking for a workshop that has a press and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about. I still do a lot of printing at home, but would like to also have access to a press. Actually, I'd just like to know that I'm not moving to God's Printmaking Wasteland. That's my story. This weekend, I'm going to LA to look at apartments. Write me with any good pieces of information! If anyone is looking for an instructional tape, I recommend Japanese Woodcut Workshop by Izumi Kuroiwa available from McClain's. At $80 it is expensive but in my opinion, well worth the cost. It is VHS format, 75 minutes in color. Cheers Ray Esposito ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V3 #130 ***************************
