Actually when we saw the title "upcoming treat" we thought you were going on vacation again..... :>') What a wonderful addition. I think all would agree that these treasers are fun. It is great to have some idea of what is coming and when the news is such as you presented here, it is really special. The only negative I see is everyone constantly asking, when..when...when. I like the advance notice. Cheers Ray Esposito ------------------------------ From: Phil Bivins Date: Tue, 05 May 1998 10:02:41 -0400 Subject: [Baren 708] Re: An upcoming treat ... It's good to have something to look forward to. I remember when Ray mentioned in a past Baren he had some new stuff to add to the Encyclopedia, and it was great when it finally appeared and it made the wait worth it. Everynight I explore the web for new stuff on woodcutting, so you're mentioning this makes future searching all the sweeter. Don't keep us in the dark. We'll appreciate Horimoto-san's addition to the Encyclopedia all the more now that we know it's coming and have some idea of the wealth of information he has to offer. **** I went to see the Kuniyoshi show at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Sunday. Phenominal. The show is somewhat of a sequal to a show at PMA a few years back which featured the work of Kuniyoshi's student Yoshitoshi. Not only does "Heroes and Ghosts" feature Kuniyoshi's prints, but also a number of his paintings as well as study drawings for the prints. Most interesting to me were the varying results in the appearance of his prints over the course of Kuniyoshi's career as he worked with differt cutters, printers and publishers. The prints for the exhibition were drawn from private and Museum collections in the US, UK, Germany and the Netherlands. The print that kept drawing me back across the gallery was the oban triptych "Taira ghosts attacking Yoshitsune's ship." Photographs in books cannot do this print justice. I know I've said it before, but if you happen to be anywhere near Philadelphia in May and June, don't miss this exhibition.
