I forgot to mention on my last posting that grandpa PAUL used to work for a commercial firm downtown making wood engravings back around the turn of the century. On his spare time he would occassionally do some woodcuts as a hobby; just for fun. He is going to bring out some of his old blocks at XMAS and show us kids ( Fred & me) how printing was done back in the old days. He has some woodblocks, papers and inks stashed away in a trunk from when he retired in 1938) that he is going to put to good use. I prefer the cabinet makers wax sticks as they set up much harder that common variety wax ... ie candles. It seems to me that the most important concept in numbering prints is that it should be useful and descriptive, a tool for the artist to describe what he has made, to be honest w buyer. Is there any way to make a distinction between artist-printed and publisher-printed prints? April Vollmer ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V5 #379 ***************************
