Congratulations on all of your hard work. How you could have done all that with people all over the place and mikes in your face is beyond me. Anyway I know you will look gorgeous in your tux. I hope you have a picture taken of yourself in your finery and put it on the net for all of us to see!! We are all very pleased for you, David. You work so hard and really deserve the recognition you are now getting. Your community work and participation in your workers' association has not gone unnoticed by your neighbors. You are also like a shepherd to this flock of online artists. You certainly have increased international awareness and understanding of an ancient Japanese craft. We breathlessly await your report on the poetry reading. Perhaps you will receive a commission from the Emporer? It is good luck for all of us. What a time of joy it is for you to have Himi and Fumi with you. Your happiness with your daughters' presence bubbles through your posts. Dave, when does Chinese New Year begin? Dear Dave: What a wonderful time for you and the girls ! Just thinking that only about a month or two ago you were worrying about publicity and lack of press involvement. To have your daughters with you at this time to help you finish the project and participate in all the going-ons must really be wonderful. For most of their lives they have shared with you in the making of this project and now you and them get to do this last print together. All the best success in your coming exhibition ! To all the old-timers at Baren (those of us that go back to last year) and to all the newer members, it's being great getting to know you all and sharing thoughts & techniques. Have a great holiday season and a Happy New Year ! ps. A special thanks to Jean Eger whose printmaking web-site brought me over to Dave's site and the Baren Forum and to Dave Bull for providing and nourishing a place for this small family of printmakers to get together....... ------------------------------ From: jimandkatemundie@juno.com (James G Mundie) Date: Wed, 23 Dec 1998 17:00:49 -0500 Subject: [Baren 2414] Holiday greetings I would like to extend my best wishes to everyone involved with Baren for the holiday and coming new year. Recent developments surrounding Dave's work have shown us the wonderful things that are possible with perseverance and vision. Why Dave, if you weren't so many thousands of miles away, I'd rub your belly for good luck! I have also been asked to extend good tidings on behalf of Gayle. She is unfortunately away from her computer attending to her ailing mother in Tennessee. Gayle asked that I tell you all that you are much in her thoughts. I look forward to all the wonderful information and news we will share in the new year. Go n-e/iri an t-a/dh sinn! The interior of the carton in which you ship your prints must be at least that large to accommodate the box on its return to you. I suggest another inch or so all around for soft packing material. Just a reminder, the deadline for the exchange is 1 February 1999. Prints will be sent to me (with return postage) at my address in a reusable container. Further details will be discussed closer to the deadline. Thanks belong to Dave for taking the time out of all his interviews and imperial visits to make all this possible! :-) Mise le meas, James Mundie, Philadelphia USA ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Wed, 23 Dec 1998 16:23:12 -0600 Subject: [Baren 2416] re: exchange box James writes: >The box is 41.8cm high (about 16.5in), 28.3cm wide (about 11 1/8in), and >25mm (1in) deep. The "Large" box from Federal Express just about fits these dimensions( just a bit bigger all around). It's actually about 3 inches deep which will allow plenty of packaging material. Even if you don't send it thru Fed Ex keep an eye open for discarded boxes thru the holidays. JULIO ------------------------------ From: "David Stones" Date: Thu, 24 Dec 1998 12:20:29 +0900 Subject: [Baren 2417] Re: Baren Digest V5 #386 Dear Jean, As I guess Dave B is a bit busy I'll take the liberty of answering your question re the New Year... The Japanese New Year is now Jan. 1st but the old one (following the lunar calendar) is/was in February (Feb. 16th in '99). It is still celebrated in my part of Japan with the local village climbing to the top of the highest hill (which happens to be next to our farmhouse) to watch the sunrise. Adequate quantities of Sake or rice wine help ward off the cold at this coldest time of the year here. So, we can celebrate New Year twice, a bonus for the Far East members of Baren! Merry Christmas too... print on Dave S ------------------------------ From: Graham Scholes Date: Wed, 23 Dec 1998 19:56:55 -0800 Subject: [Baren 2418] Re: Baren Digest V5 #386 David Stone wrote.... >It is still celebrated in my part of Japan with the local village climbing >to the top of the highest hill (which happens to be next to our farmhouse) to >watch the sunrise.
