Wanda, Sorry, that was just a little joke about the Mac, tongue in cheek. I use such dry humor sometimes that it's not picked up. My fault. Graham, David Stones brought to my attention that on the second address I gave I did not include the // after http:. If you still haven't gotten it, try that. Sorry about that, what was that I said about it ought to be illegal to sit me down in front of one of these things? Thanks David, for the tip. I'll pass it on & see what they >can come up with. Roxanne: Thanks for thinking of it! A translation would be great! I hesitate to put a seal on my work when I don't really know what it means. I think it means my name, phonetically, but I'm really not sure what the characters mean. The seal is at http://users.lanminds.com/~jeaneger/seal.html It's exciting to hear about the LAPS show. Any chance you will have some of it online? I see the LAPS signed up with ART2U which is also hosting the OFFICIAL California Society of Printmakers (CSP) web site. I had the FIRST official CSP web site, until I got overloaded with schoolwork and suggested they look around for someone else to do it. I still have CSP information on my web site, along with the PRINTMAKING: PEOPLE AND PROCESS, which will be up for three years, at which time I'll probably organize another show. It's a great organization and I have benefitted immeasurably from getting to know and work with the members on exhibitions and other projects. Matt suggested that the student Hosho needs sizing, so I am going to try that next. Actually, Matt suggested I try BFK lightweight, but then that would be a new edition on new paper? Yes? No? Anyway, I'll try the rabbitskin glue on the Hosho before I switch paper. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm signing off now because I have to teach art to 150 bouncy middle school kids tomorrow! Jean Eger ------------------------------ From: "Fatima" Date: Tue, 5 Jan 1999 09:53:39 -0000 Subject: [Baren 2517] long distance wood printmaking guidance Jean : Thanks for your response, informations and your web search for my wood printmaking needs. I visited the site but I don't think they have any art department there. May be it is not the same University you thought. I live in Portugal, Lisbon city. I never tried to do wood prints or wood cut before, so I'm at level zero. I think that wood prints I may see here, done in my country, are pretty different (technically and the final results) from what I see done by japanese people, for instance or by Baren members. I think that wood prints that portuguese generally make have always (I'm trying to explain it in english, but it is not so easy, please try to understand) the wooden grain marks at the final stage of the image, so anyone will know imediatly that the image was created from wood technique and has nothing to do with an watercolour image or for instance with the type of beautifull Graham's "fragility". Maybe it is just a technique difference. I think that the distance guidance idea could be a great and new experience. Anyway I should have some time yet to join some tools and the wood pieces to begin. My first doubt is what I really need at the begining, what is really indispensable. I think I must read a lot more about the techique before, and then I'll may come back with this idea further on. I thank you very much, Fatima Ferreira ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V6 #399 ***************************
