I've just prepared six small double-sized basswood blocks and the process seems to have worked great- only took me about an hour and there was a LOT less dust than sanding, and much less frustration than hand-planing. In case you aren't familiar with them, scrapers (I'm using a Sanvik brand) are simply a rectangular pieces of spring sheet metal that have a 5=B0-10=B0 hook burnished on an edge. You bend the corners up and either push or pull it at an angle. Therefore, only the middle part makes contact with the wood and leaves a very shallow tapered depression. The boards come out with a wonderful sheen. I'd like to hear what you woodworking vets have to say on the issue... Thanks for the brush sanding info and pics Dave! - -John ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V6 #468 ***************************
