Once I had to do one for a show, and I asked my friend Alois and my husband, Jim, to write it. I didn't know how to say what I was doing. My main thought would have been "I just like it like that". * * * The Baren slide show of the Exchange Prints is beautiful to see. My husband loves R. Hudson's print (Jim is from New England and the print touched a memory), my youngest son, who is an M. C. Escher fan, loves Hideshi's print. The same son's girlfriend loves Jeanne's print of the pensive woman. A lot of oohing and ahhing going on here. Well done, Baren Exchangers, and James and Dave; WELL DONE!!!! I have been using my regular oil paints for my woodblocks and have switched over to Daniel Smith Woodblock Inks. Question; I have always used linseed oil in my regular oil paints for my canvas painting. Now I have used Burnt Plate oil #00. I find that I have to use an inordinate amount to get my paint smooth. Is this normal or should I be using something else that works better? It seems to print ok but I question the huge amount that I have to use. Point me in the right direction someone. Ray; If I continue to use oil paint I will put Channel # 5 in the next print, just for you! Dave; Loved the slide show!!!!! James; Loved your beautiful print! "A picture is worth a 1,000 words." My motto But I loved Deans process, really interesting! I am afraid that I have no process, I am like Gayle, I just do it! ------------------------------ From: David Bull Date: Sun, 14 Mar 1999 13:00:47 +0900 Subject: [Baren 3532] Update ... A major update to the Encyclopedia this afternoon ... http://www.woodblock.com/encyclopedia/updates.html It's a page from John Amoss, and is a very comprehensive overview of how he made 'Warm Spot', the print he sent to the exchange. Good illustrations, good descriptions, ... good everything! Don't miss it, beginners and pros alike! ... a very heartfelt 'Thank you' to John for all the work he must have put into this ... I finally got my nerve up and followed Bill's advice on Emeralda Dream and tackled it with a damp cloth. And low and behold the dream began to sufrace & there it was, the ship of state, with colors so bright and contrasting with the beautiful browns & greens of the wood grain. Thanks, Bill, for this experience. I had an audience and they too enjoyed the risk & the result. Of course, I had to leave some of the paper on so I can do it again and again. It's a wonderful print!
