This is one I sort of developed myself. I have an el-shaped board. Through trial and error, using the size paper I want, I figure where would be the best place to line the paper up on the board so that when printed, the margins will be even on both sides. I also figure top to bottom margins. This way I can draw a line down the el shaped board (the vertical) exactly where the paper will be placed. I do this for the bottom, too. I use removeable scotch tape and gently tape the paper to the line I have drawn (I like doing it this way because I can change the line for different sizes of paper--I believe some people like to glue on a ruler or a piece of cardboard, but that's too permanent for me). I tape only the left edge in two or three places and I don't try to stick it down too hard. Now I lay the paper back like opening a page. I put the inked board against the el shape of the registration board and carefully bring the paper over it and begin burnishing. When I'm finished, I lay the paper back like turning the page again, and place the next inked block in, burnish it and continue til all the blocks are finished. So each print is done in one sitting. Hope that helps. I'am part of the portfolio #1. Days before I read an e-mail that informed few people interest in Manhattan activity. What happen in only a few of us want to exhibit? I appreciate your effort. I know you-all are not shy retiring violets! I am pretty sure you like to have some good New York exhibitions on your Artist Biographies! Not even on Long Island. Right there in the center of lower Manhattan. So how about it! Give us newbies a break and come on board for the Manhattan Graphics show. It only costs $20 and you're not gambling with it either! (When I recover from a dead hard drive I hope to have it on the web for you all.) Is it possible to explore that? I could meet you in NYC and talk if you like. I know you do oil based printing and I am still surprized that the ink does not obliterate the one that went before. But I will try it anyway. One thing that is going to make me do a hanga print is the mess that I have to clean up everytime I do an oil based print. I can deal with brushes and canvas etc; but those rollers are almost impossible to clean thoroughly. I have a print already to go, and I think I will try this one in watercolors. Also two more all carved, ready to go, but they will be oil based for that is why I did them. THey just would not be good in water colors. I certainly hope we get a little more enthusiasm from the group for the Manhatten Print show. Sounds good to me!!! Do you have your print already for the second exchange? I just did my first run today. But I am a little suspicious about what it is going to look like. It looks great in black and white. I have a habit of ruining prints when I put color in them. Guess that is why I like to draw!! That is if at least 20 of the 30 participants want to do it. Judy ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V7 #563 ***************************
