They're both 14.5 cm (about 5.75 inches). As my hands are large, I also make the distance from the grip to the baren itself wider. Dave S ------------------------------ From: "Jeanne N. Also am looking forward to Downloading the new entry of Mr. Platt's What a wonderful addition you have in all the great work that Himi and Fumi are doing. They certainly deserve a lot of praise. I was pleasantly surprized when I arrived from my brief vacation to find the newsletter in my mailbox. Have not had time to read it all but glanced at it and saw the famous John Amoss contribution. Good stuff John. Welcome to all the newcomers. How many members are we up to now? While I was away I saw a marvelous PRINT Exhibition at the Harnes museum in Gainesville. The museum is part of the University of Gainesville. I am always so disappointed when they fail to have a catalog . It was mostly woodengraving and woodcuts, dating back to the 15th century, up to the present. Some of the work really blew me away. It was the highlight of my little trip. Hi, I have been a baren member for a few months, have enjoyed the information and the dialogue and have finally committed to introducing myself to all. I am a painter and a printmaking working in woodcuts off and on for several years. I have studied with Yuji Hiratsuka, a master printmaker who is in chair of the print department at Oregon State. I have just been juried into the Northwest Print Council in Portland, Oregon and am participating in a new members show right now. I have alot to thank this website for, particularly for the information about the Leonard Baskin workshop in Florence in September which I have signed up to attend. He has always been a favorite of mine along with Antonio Frasconi, so I am indeed very excited about the opportunity. Three weeks in Florence, and one week in Paris, wow, I can hardly believe I am doing this. I have participated in the Baren exchange #2 as a replacement and have signed up for the #3 exchange, and am looking forward to the Self Portrait exchange when that happens. I appreciate all the marvelous information and the work that is put into this wonderful website. Thank you to all, Bobbie Mandel ------------------------------ From: Barbara Mason Date: Fri, 09 Jul 1999 08:27:58 -0700 Subject: [Baren 4907] Marco To any of you in San Francisco, Marco Flavio Marinucci has his opening tonight at the Latino Cultural Center. A show of 20 portraits of immigrants from all over the world to the San Francisco area. His work is very powerful. Go if you are close and let us know how it looks on the walls. We are all rooting for you Marco. Us "Boot Camp" people really bonded and we all wish we could be there to cheer you on. Good Luck!!!!!!! I have seen your work and it is really wonderful. I will be anxious to see your exchange print. I understand Yugi is teaching a workshop in woodblock (Hanga style) at PNCA in Portland this week. I could have stayed home and learned it, but it was such fun in Victoria! Perhaps he will do it again next year or we can get enough Portland and surrounding area people to get our own workshop.....What a thought. Your work is wonderfully bold and powerful. The statement is in keeping with the portraits of immigrants.....strong and resilient comes to mind. Keep up the good work Marco. I copied them off and will try constructing one as soon as we have settled in our new digs in Juneau (we are in the process of moving presently and life is chaos). The line drawing for the encyclopedia sounds like a good idea also. I didn't get the joke about the hamburger being one with everything the first time. Oh, well.
