I use the 3/8 inch plywood and just screw the thin board onto 1/2 inch plywood back. You can purchase cherry plywood in many thickness so there is no need to glue the veneer yourself. If you already have the veneer and are just wanting to use it up I think that white glue (like Elmer) will work fine. As a fundraising project, the gallery is organizing a temporary shop in conjunction with the show, so for the "shop" they are seeking "dog-related art, objects, books & accessories," and are "particularly interested in works priced at $20 or less." Merchandise will be reviewed for consignment Oct. 11, 15 & 16. If you've got some appropriately canine stuff & are interested, contact: Bedford Gallery, 1601 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94596. Their phone # is 925-295-1421. best to all, Sarah ------------------------------ From: Maria Arango Date: Sat, 25 Sep 1999 19:42:21 -0700 Subject: [Baren 5997] Re: veneer suggestions Thanks all for the suggestions and comments on veneer. Will let you know how my experiments turn out. "The plunge", Julio, is my entry into the art world full-time. Sept 30th is my last day at the day-job. Also around the time I should receive my new press from Dan Patrick. There is probably some really simple answer to this question, and I will be embarrassed that I asked, but...I tried to view Gayles woodcut of her grandma by clicking on the address in the Digest and got to the message board message. Clicking on "here" got me to a screen where I had to log in with a password. How do I get a password? The answer is probably on the site somewhere, but I have totally overIooked it if it is. never did get to see Gayles uploaded woodcut, which I assume I might be able to see once I had logged in............. Michelle, at this point you were _at_ the message board. If you had just waited a few seconds for the images to load, you would have been able to scroll down and see Gayle's book. (Another way to get to the Message Board - easier to remember than that address - is by using the link on the [Baren] main web page at http://woodblock.com) > Clicking on "here" got me to a screen where I had to log in > with a password. How do I get a password? Only if you want to _add_ something to the Message Board do you need to click to move to the next screen - and it is at that point that you will be asked for the password. I'll take a stab at this, since no else has stepped forward to answer it. What you probably saw was not mother of pearl, but tiny mica flakes. It was common on Japanese prints, in a few subtly different colors, and it adds a lot of sparkle, but I have never heard of crushed mother of pearl being used on prints. The mica is usually applied either to the newly printed wet pigment, or on a printed glue, kind of like sprinkling on glitter like we did as children.
