Baren Digest Thursday, 7 October 1999 Volume 09 : Number 733 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Wed, 6 Oct 1999 16:59:02 -0500 Subject: [Baren 6137] re: Dave's print Okay, since nobody is around (Dave's on a plane, Graham is cutting wood and everyone else must be driving to the east coast....) and those that replied (Jack, Gayle & Dave) did not take the bait.....I guess.......my comments about Dave's latest Surimono print being cold & distant was just a joke, a play on words. I guess you have to read the text that goes along with the print....as I was making fun of Dave for interrupting his printing by "freezing" his half-completed prints while going away mountain hiking........ What day & time are the opening ceremonies at the MHC ? I already have one set of prints from Ruth aka Speedy Gonzalez. By the way, have y'all seen Ruth's new website? http://www.ruthleaf.com Her prints are luminous, and her handling of color is outstanding--better than that yet, flabbergasting, radiant, out of this world, really. Tonight it's opening night at the LV Art Museum, have two pieces there but their "roundups" (calls for entries) do not include a category for prints, so I'm going to see if I can talk to someone about this horrid deficiency. Mark Chagall's show is also in the Museum so it should be an awesome art-night. On the weekend of the 23rd we will be driving down to California to deliver a large drawing for a show. The relatively new Getty Museum in L.A. will be showing old Spanish Master drawings, like Goya, Murillo, Velazquez, El Greco...all my favorites, so will make a stop there. I'm hoping to see some Goya prints as well. Printing on cherry wood veneer proved to be successful; the veneer takes as much ink as you want to put on there and gives a beautiful background for the print. I will put on the website as soon as they are dry enough to scan. Have fun and be safe in all your travels, oh travelers. Health to all, Maria ------------------------------ From: Gary Luedtke Date: Wed, 6 Oct 1999 23:22:55 -0400 Subject: [Baren 6140] Re: Dave's print Julio, Unfortunately I am still here too, so must stand and be counted with Jack as not having been sitting up straight when your comments on Dave's latest flew over. >cold & distant was just a joke, a play on words. It's starting to sink in, cold as the freezer, or "Kagetsu on Ice". Dave has a shelf in the freezer for the honored dead sort of thing? Julio, anyone as tasteless as that is following right in my footsteps! That print view certainly seems loftier than a second story window, however, more like a high rise. I wonder if Dave embellished it some to add dramatic effect, or to suggest perhaps that old Kagetsu was actually in heaven looking down on his former world. His spirit suggested by the artifacts he was fond of, as well as his silhouette. Kind of his room in heaven. By the way, are you the one that told Dave the old boy resembled Alfred Hitchcock? Maybe Alfred pouting after his hair didn't turn out? Julio, I haven't been giving you enough credit. You caught some things in there the rest of us missed.
