[Baren]: The mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking. Baren Digest Wednesday, 20 October 1999 Volume 09 : Number 749 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Roger A. Ball" Date: Tue, 19 Oct 1999 08:48:34 -0600 Subject: [Baren 6314] Re: kento http://users.lanminds.com/~jeaneger/kento/index.html vs. http://woodblock.com/encyclopedia/entries/000_09/000_09_frame.html I guess I do it differently here, too. The kento I use are an upper left 'L' and a left side 'I'. I think it depends on what you are most comfortable with. I like to hold the wet paper in my right hand and guide the corner to the upper left with my left forefinger and thumb extended and aligning with the kento. My kento are also cut into an 'L' frame mounted on a work board rather than oversizing the actual block. I pressure fit the blocks left and up into the frame using 2 screws at a slight angle against the bottom and right edge. It's actually the head of the screw that pushes against the edges of the block. Since I cut all the blocks to be the same size, more or less, I merely nedd to slightly tighten or loosen to go to the next color (block). This also gives me fine alignment control to register the blocks to each other by either shiming or trimming later if necessary. It's easy to add screws to get perfect fit if needed. This is sometimes extra helpful because if a board slightly warps in one direction during the run, you might be able to fix the registration. Thanks Jean for your insightful, clear treatment. I'm interested in the 'Flora and Fauna' you mention on after5, of course. It's right up my alley. I'm going smaller scale, but looking at plant themes. I wish you all well. Can you be more specific about what they need? Do they need a webmaster, space for their magazine online, or is the whole org gone out of business? Thanks, Maria ------------------------------ From: "Philip Smith" Date: Tue, 19 Oct 1999 10:35:31 -0700 Subject: [Baren 6316] Re: Print Works Maria,......this sight is on my favorite list and it pops right up for me,....however if you can't find them they give two e-mail addresses,... Due to the pressure of other commitments IÕm no longer able to maintain Printworks as I would like. Those of you who are regular visitors will have noticed a drop off in updates. I would like to hand over the whole web site to some else free of charge. But only to an individual or organization who can do it justice. If you are interested please e-mail me with your proposal, in less than 500 words, of how you would develop the site to benefit all printmakers from around the world. The successful applicant will receive the whole web site on CD ROM and I will make a redirection page at the present URL pointing to the new URL. Mark Millmore R.E. Go for it! We'll back you up!
