[Baren]: The mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking. Baren Digest Thursday, 21 October 1999 Volume 09 : Number 751 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Bull Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999 12:45:57 +0900 Subject: [Baren 6332] Re: Baren Digest V9 #750 A quick 'administrivia' type note ... May I make a couple of requests please? (1) The [Baren] list goes out in two forms - as 'direct' postings, one by one, and as a 'Digest', a compilation of postings. The software that creates the digest version has a real problem when 'formatted' mail comes in; if you send your message in HTML format, that message will _not_ be decoded properly when included in the digest, and is thus rendered pretty much unreadable to those [Baren] members who subscribe to that version. In order that non-digest subscribers can understand the extent of the problem, I have put a sample of the most recent digest up at: http://woodblock.com/temporary/digest750.txt Take a look at it, and you will see why I have to mention this again now ... So please may I request that you turn _off_ HTML formatting when sending postings to [Baren]. Most modern mail software allows you to set this automatically for any particular address - so your mail to other addresses will not be affected. (2) Many mail programs also have a setting for: 'Automatically quote original message when replying'. Please either turn this off, or else manually delete those portions of the original message that do not need to be included with your message. Again, having a look at that digest I mentioned a moment ago will show you the problem ... *** I have to apologize for getting so far behind in my updating of the web site, most notably the 'Who is Baren' pages. Those of you who have requested to be included there, please hang on a bit longer ... By the way, for those who are curious, I see by checking with the list server that [Baren] now has 118 members. It is a programm called Study International Groups Exchange, held by Rotary International. In my case, I will encounter with peers (I'm an art teacher and artist) from Japan, to exchange mutual experiencies. I will spend most of the time in Miyasaki and Kagoshima prefectures (in the south of the country), and about a week in Tokyo. Welcome any suggestions to "what to visit, whom to see" in those places. By the way, I'm leaving by 28th. of this month. Thank you for advising me. Horacio, from Rio/Brazil ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V9 #751 ***************************
