For those of us who don't understand the value of time and get lost in what we do, this is a small gem of a memoir. He and his second wife, Jane Kenyon, spent their lives ( she died of lukemia) in words as we printmakers do in message, medium, and masterpieces. Hello Fellow Bareners, I am back from the dead... I mean applying to schools and real life stuff. It was a crazy hectic time but I'm excited to hear back from the schools. I've already heard from University of Wisconsin and Cranbrook, I've been accepted to both. Four more schools left... I was overwhelmed with all the email. I had forgotten how much there was. I tried the digested version but it is too hard to comprehend. The code appears weaving in and out of the emails. To answer Horacio's questions. In a message dated 2/17/00 4:12:27 PM, horacio@centroin.com.br writes: << made a reservation on a flight to New York next week and to Miami during the SGC Conference, but I am not sure yet if I will really go. I have some questions: What is SCC Print Exchange? Its a great opportunity to collect some prints from several other printmakers. I was in the last print exchange and got some great prints. Then the fun came trying to track some of these people down. The works then all get displayed in one area of the exchange so you can see everything (this is before you get your new prints back). I suggest it. But give your self some time to create great prints. I ran out of time and had a printing disaster at the last minute. So I had to create a new print and edition it right before I left. It was still drying in my hotel room before I turned it in. I was very unhappy with it. What is Open Portfolio Review? It is a time when you can walk table to table talking to various artists (with different degrees of experience) and you can also buy prints from some tables. This is a good place to meet so many artists and to see their body of work. I really enjoy the conference but I never really get to meet anyone because I had to constantly run from lecture to lecture. What can I expect to see in the Printmaking Product Fair? Free stuff and supplies at normal or discounted price. I love the product fair. I have a ton of Danial Smith oil based etching ink from the last one. You need to get there early before everyone gets all the free stuff. New products show up there. How much is the price of a Scotch whisky dose in Miami? :>)# >> Umm... dunno. Last time I was in Miami is when I was 10. I pretty much stayed away from the Scotch whisky. Well, I have to run off to the frame shop. Its good to be back. - -Amanda ------------------------------ From: "Maria Arango" Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2000 07:51:40 -0800 Subject: [Baren 8492] Re: Web Site charset="iso-8859-1" Jeanne, you have to remember, having a website is like getting a puppy. The surprises never stop and you have to keep cleaning up after it and fixing all the things it chews up for a long time. Mine is still cranky after having been moved from one host to another, but I guess we all get cranky when we move. Looks great, by the way! Miami in March is irresistible to those in Nebraska. I'll have a booth set up at the Product Fair for Frogman's Print & Paper Workshops. I may not be manning the booth, though, as there will be so much to see there, I don't know if I can sit in one place for long. Hope to meet some of you there! For those still thinking about attending SGC -- check on airline tickets. There aren't many seats yet available. The guilty data clerk has been suspended without pay and is now in charge of trash detail for a month. I think all the corrections are in, along with a handful of new website links. A couple of you asked what a dynamic HTML page is/was.....without rambling too much here....it is a web page dynamically created by another program based on user-input. In this case I have a Java program that reads thru an array (table/list/string/whatever) of data (first name, last name, city, sex, whatever) and loops thru all the data to create the output you see. As it goes along writing output it knows where to stick all the HTML tags based on certain rules that I have programmed. The result is an html source file. The benefit of this is that once the raw data has been entered once into the array/table.....I can now rerun the job as many times as I want to create new looking pages....regardless of how many participants....one, 70+ or 10,000....my forty lines of code will create a new web page everytime regardless the size of the data. To make any change on the page....all I do is change the particular line in the code that affects that area......ex...to change color on city names... I would just go over and change the one line of code to read for the new color.....I don't have to change all the different places where the city names show in the existing web page.....when I run the job....a brand new page is created with all the city names changed to the new color....that output file is then FTPed over to the server where my page resides in the net.....ENOUGH babbling..........sorry! Thanks...........Julio PS. GOOD news....the frames have arrived....my living room is about to become "BAREN Gallery" central for the next month and a half!!!!!!! ------------------------------ From: ArtfulCarol@aol.com Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2000 19:20:07 EST Subject: [Baren 8496] Re: Exhibit List HTML WOW!
