I hope that by answering here in the general mail, I can answer those that have asked, those who wondered but didn't ask and those that have already judged without asking. I'm striving to create "art" that operates on two levels: - - one level is the image only. Does the compostion work, color work, good technique, etc... - - if one wants to further, they can look up the reference verse. That verse just allows the viewer to go one step deeper into the piece, into understanding the motivation, meaning, etc.. I want these prints to work, with or without the title. I don't mean to offend anyone with my titles, but to encourage one more step if they want to understand more. I love to hear about this stuff. I hope to be an avid traveler. Small town girl goes to New York then Italy... where next...it may have to wait until after graduate school. To add to Maria's list of ways to tell if a paper is sized: I lick a corner of a sheet. If my tongue sticks to the paper, it means that the paper is too absorbant to have been sized. The dragon is taken from the Texas Horned Toad, which is endangered due to the near extinction of the red ant in Texas. I am sorry to be so slow to post this note. Besides being a printmaker, and administrator of a non profit, I teach reading to 130 at-risk seventh graders, and i really exhaust myself with 12 hour days, letting this obssession with literacy overtake my time for art. The dragon exchangw inspired me to commit the time to make my first new print in a year, and I had a real struggle..it was like having to relearn everything and restock all of my suppies, too. I wasn't satisfied with the first edition, ans started over. I am actually proud of the print i sent, having relearned how to print a transpareny flat in woodblock. I had committed many hours to the print before ths postings indicating some people only wanted to receive pure woodblock or relief prints. If anyone is dissappointed, send my print back and I will refund your print by return mail. I will still be thankful to have finally reconnrected to my printer self, and appreciate Baren members for that.
