[Baren} the mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking Baren Digest Wednesday, 28 June 2000 Volume 11 : Number1059 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: B Mason Date: Tue, 27 Jun 2000 20:58:01 -0700 Subject: [Baren 10207] funny exchange This could work, funny stuff. All I could see when I was reading the messages about this was the orange with the baby inside, if you remember that post. This could literally be anything, as what is funny to one is not funny to another. We could get some interesting work here! Wanda can do one of her animals, I can do the famous rabbit riding cat we used to have, Jeanne can do an old car, it goes on and on. Will we need explanations as to why the work is funny or is our interpertation enough? Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome and the replies to my questions. You are going to be a great group to work with. I have viewed the various images by the group and am excited about the diversity offered here. The suggestions offered for the theme of the exchange has me thinking I should participate. Would anyone believe a large mono print cut into 30 small pieces? :-) Sue ------------------------------ From: "Jean Eger" Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000 22:51:52 -0700 Subject: [Baren 10211] themes It is fun to talk about themes. I like the open-ended ones myself. Here are some themes to consider: birth, death, peace, war, love, family, nature or progress. Welcome, Sue... Sounds like you have the same idea I have. As for the theme... It's 4:36 AM here; my eyes are raisins; and I'm throwing macaroni around, getting ready to go to bed--I have no suggestions! :) I was not enthused about the literal "Where I Live" theme (though the comments that broaden upon its base, have softened me quite a bit to it)... I enjoyed the "Favorite Weed"--mine is so much my favorite that I won't even refer to it as a "weed" at all (it's a FLOWER). "Funny" is very nice--maybe my favorite theme suggested, thus far, but I just know it'll be a (good, I think) intellectual exercise when it comes time for me to choose which "Funny" to "do." Whatever the theme, I promise I will bend it to my fancy and make it at Frogman's print workshop in a little over a week! :D Sign-up for the exchange #7 is at midnight GMT time??? This'll be my first! :D ;D Love <3 & Lint * ! Might help people see exactly what it is. If so, what are your size limitations? Here are a couple more possible themes: madness, favorite book or story, dreams, poetry or poem. We met at a talk at Manhattan Graphics, sponsored by Judy Mensch. Hope your visit to New York was a sucess, and that you saw everything you wanted. (just kidding, it was too short a visit to do everything!) I wanted to ask you about your shop, and what kind of printing you do. Is there much demand for woodcut up there in Montreal? best, April Vollmer 174 Eldridge St, NYC 10002, 212-677-5691 http://www.aprilvollmer.com ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V11 #1059 *****************************
