[Baren} the mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking Baren Digest Friday, 7 July 2000 Volume 12 : Number1068 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Bull Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 22:26:14 +0900 Subject: [Baren 10326] Encyclopedia Update ... It being summer here in Tokyo, my girls are here with me again, and as always, [Baren] members can look forward to a bunch of 'goodies' coming on line, as the two of them get busy with the scanner and OCR software to earn their summer 'allowance' ... First up this year is a group of additions to the 'Exhibitions' part of the Encyclopedia. Check the 'Turn of the Century Printmakers' section for many 'new' and very interesting print images. (Don't miss Chadel's Magpie!) You'll see the link to the Exhibitions section down near the bottom of the main woodblock.com front page ... *** Reminder about the opening of general sign-up for Exchange #7 which will be starting at midnight on July 8th ... Here's a quote from the info on the sign-up page: >Note: in order that most [Baren] members will be awake, >the actual moment of startup is 3:00 PM July 8th (GMT). >This will be somewhere in the morning of July 8th for >west-coast Americans, mid-day for east-coasters and >Brazilians, afternoon/evening for those in Europe and the >Middle East, and late in the evening for the Far East >(Hawaiians will have to set their alarm clocks!). Please >check your local equivalent time carefully. So for most of you, the time will be sometime on your Saturday, during the day. The sign-up form will refresh exactly at the moment of sign-up start, so please remember to 'reload' with your browser in order to see the latest version of the page. It may be a bit of a 'scramble' again this time, as there aren't a whole lot of spaces left. Remember that you may 'Submit' as many entries as you like with the sign-up form, as any that are date-stamped by the server _before_ the opening time will simply be ignored. Stuff for little kids is fun, but I guess we wouldn't have wanted to be inside where all the kids were playing and the adults were helping them. We'd each need a little kid for that. Otherwise, I can imagine what stares we'd get running around where the wild things were and whooping it up. And, Jean, I wish I could be at your workshop at Utrecht. Also, what is Hyperstudio? Is it something we Mac people should know about? * * * Kitakata would be my suggestion, Chris Bremmer. I still like that paper best for it's natural color which looks beautiful with black ink as well as colors. You might have to play with adjusting your colors a bit since the tone does affect how the colors look when you apply them. It's more an optical illusion than anything. You find you need to tone down your colors, too, so they don't look alien against the paper tone.
