Baren Digest Thursday, 4 January 2001 Volume 14 : Number 1273 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Graham Scholes Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 21:54:08 -0800 Subject: [Baren 12795] Farewell. Administrator.... Please do not edit or alter this post. If this occurs please understand that I have the e-mail addresses on file of every Baren member from day one, so they will get this exact posting should you change anything. Well it is time ladies and gentlemen to bid adieux. Yesterday I posted a couple of joke type posts and was slam dunked for doing it. The council thought I was out of line. Jeanne had a couple of posts the ended up in my mail box being 10 pages of html. I just had to have fun with her and wrote. I have been away for awhile, as most of you know, as I thought it best to step back and assess the Baren and its direction. I also was not pleased that there is censorship happening. I truly appreciate the many private mailings and even Xmas cards that have ask me to come back. I was going to and thus was starting to become involved (5 postings since Dec 28th.) The fun mailings was the start of coming back on stream. I had an informative bit on varnish verses shellac and was about to send it when the ..... hit the fan. It does grieve me to see the direction the Baren is going. We had a wonderful vehicle here for the help and development of people interested in Hanga. Now I can see that it has become bitter, vindictive and nasty. I am not interested in dodging any more bullets so I am moving on. I will still be available for anyone that wishes to post me privately looking for help. We are going ahead with the annual teaching assignment at Boot Camp where we have a couple of spaces available. The best to all. God I love that stuff... It is like manna from heaven, it has a soul (need I go on). Bit of trivia for you, but battleship lino (the brown stuff) was invented to prevent sailors rubbing up against the cold ships steel as they would stick to it. Gross huh! That is as far as I know the first lino made. Well, I did for Kansas (KS - roughly square state west of the Mississippi River) but was relieved that I remembered to add USA. You are right, it is not correct to expect someone not from the US to know our states. It would not add to the fun of sending the cards out - adding research on top of all the other work done on these prints might make it more of a chore. > This is something of a 'see you later' mail... > > "You write a message > and no one responds, - you feel like you are talking > to yourself, I can do that at home... > > Josephine Oh no! I am so sorry to hear about your silence and (hopefully not!) exit from Baren. As a beginner, I really appreciate your knowledgeable, humorous and insightful posts. I wish I could contribute more to the Baren conversation but, alas, I am too new. I really love to listen to the more experienced artists, though. I guess my role in Baren is to show appreciation to the generous souls (like you) who are so openhanded with their information and support. I will just say "Thank You" to you and all of the wonderful Baren teachers more often. It is interesting to hear the different responses to your post. My personal tendency is to ask (and even try to convince!) you (and other artists) to stay and be happy. I do it for selfish reasons of wanting to learn and be involved in this excellent artist's community. Yet, I do not fully know your situation - only you know that. I do know that everyone has to do/decide what is right for them. There is a time to speak and a time to be silent. A time to stay and a time to go. Josephine, I offer support and wish you happiness in whatever you decide. I also hope in my heart that you and others will happily return soon. You are missed. High Regards, Cate ------------------------------ From: "Jean Eger" Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 22:54:19 -0800 Subject: [Baren 12798] Leaving the list charset="iso-8859-1" Sorry you're leaving the list, Josephine. I hope it will be a temporary absence, as it was last time. Sometimes it is a good idea to "take a vacation," and I suppose that goes for the person who has been bothering you off-list as well. We certainly can't hide our mistakes here. If I just keep talking, everyone worldwide will know just how much I don't know. It keeps me humble and respectful, but I hang in here because I need the technical information, crave the discussion of themes and solutions, adore the spontaneous exhibitions, thrive on the exchanges, and so on. So I try not to let my personal anguish and animosity spill over into Baren, knowing that if it does spill over only once in awhile, it is readily forgiven. It's better to put it into a print than to put it in words and publish it worldwide. I have a whole closet of shoes with teeth marks in them. I am glad that my browser does not insert weird marks into my messages, but I fully expect it to do so any day now.
