One of the categories was Cows!.- Guernsey, Jersey, etc. It was at that time we learned the poem by Robert Louis Stevenson , "The Friendly Cow" Ogden Nash The notable Wrote about The Armadillo- Quotable! I think this is appropriate for Baren because it is about creativity. Just like any other business.....you have to cater to your customers and may have to give up some personal ideals & priorities to be successful........Good luck. A few more slithering critters have made their way to my snake pit. Please take a look, they are all really wonderful. All the recent arrivals are labeled "new". Jan Telfer's 3D snake pops right out of the paper to give you a big old bite. That's great! The New Year Snakes will be on exhibit at the "Second Annual Skokie Library Baren Exchange Exhibit "(that's a heck of a long title!). Show opens May 20 and goes through June 22. Selected prints from Baren exchanges #5 through #9 will be the main attraction. Thanks...Barbara P., Lawrence, Bea, Jan, Claude & Ray H.............your pets are doing fine after undergoing the required quarantine period... http://www.skokienet.org/bandits/jcrstuff/snakes/ Also some new prints from the PrintMakers Exchange.........thanks Maria, Darrell & Christina.. http://www.skokienet.org/bandits/jcrstuff/printm/ thanks..Julio mine are in the cutting stages.....out to you before EOM ------------------------------ From: Cucamongie@aol.com Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 18:55:13 EST Subject: [Baren 13040] Pigments Hi folks, Bea, sorry I didn't have a chance to get right back to you. Anyway, I don't disperse my pigments in alcohol, I purchase them already dispersed in water, which is much safer for your health than mixing the powder with water yourself and breathing in all that pigment dust! There is no reason to buy them in powdered form when the liquid form is readily available, though I realize that Bea has purchased the powder form already. Anyhow, the place I get them from is called Guerra, they are located at 510 E 13th St, New York, NY 10009, (212) 529-0628. They do mail order and their prices are quite reasonable, the pigments last a long time too! As for how to deal w/the powder, I'm not sure, Dave Bull is a pro at that, so I'm sure he could help you out. Bea, let us know how you like the ball bearing baren, sounds like it's a little different than the one I have and somewhat less expensive too- Happy printing! I agree with you, artists should read the comments, but remember that only the artist can decide if they need to pay attention to the comments. I was really shocked once to read in the newspaper that my work was surrealistic, because I didn't particularly like surrealists, I thought. Same article really misinterpreted some images in the painting. It made me go back and study surrealists, and how I might have not said what I wanted to say. A marketing truth is that there is no such thing as bad publicity... If someone bothers to comment in the media on your work, you are way ahead of the artist who was not oven mentioned. If an artist doesn't want to be reviewed, it is pretty easy to avoid... Don't show where the gallery writes press releases. Spent about 20 mins in the postoffice sticking on stamps. So you should get them sometime next week. Some managed to get 'year of the snake' stamps, the rest got ordinary ones.
