Baren Digest Thursday, 25 January 2001 Volume 14 : Number 1297 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Gillyin Gatto" Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 10:01:32 -0800 Subject: [Baren 13090] Re: Baren Digest v14 #1296 hello sorry i forgot to delete the tail last time... yes i guess the 'treespeaking' would be similar to the marble ... both wood and stone posess grain and therein lies the heart /soul of each indiviual piece. with wood the grain of each will differ greatly from not s howing much at all-birch ,to being very powerful- oak and all kinds of plywood . IF thi= s is appropriate to the artists work and themes,it can greatly enhance a composition or create interesting effects ,moods. the swirling grains of plywood especially interest me and are fun to carve around. the tree/wood speaks through its grain and we read it by printing it out onto paper. gillyin machias maine USA ------------------------------ From: GWohlken Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 09:57:02 -0500 Subject: [Baren 13091] Re: Baren Digest v14 #1296 Lawrence, I've been sending friends to see your prints. I admire all the work you put into them as I too have done a series for a book and know what that means. The energy given to a large project gives shape and momentum to your days, and a deep satisfaction at the afterglow. Well done, I might add. I found myself reaching into my own psyche to meet some of your images. People, I thank you for the nice comments regarding my print of my cousin, Marty. And yes, Gillyin, I am guilty of feeling guilty because my way of carving isn't right for hanga, even if I try. Julio, I appreciate your posting Mr. Crossland's webpage to us. I like their carving tables, which seem so sturdily made. At first I thought they were sitting on chairs, but looking again I see they carve down on the floor like Dave does. Oh my knees, my knees. As usual, Mr. Phelps, this is not an ad or anything, and I get nothing from them but wood, for which I have to pay their normal prices.
