There is a poem I wrote years ago that I always wanted to illustrate and now I'm doing it for Exchange 9. I have #8 drying in the blotters so will be on time or if late only a day or so. Hope everyone else is done also. What a great feeling to be done. We seem to put a lot of pressure on ourselves don't we? She has always wanted to try printmaking, but hasn't due to the fact that all the print work she sees is "representational". I want to direct her to some sites to see work done is this venue. Any hints? dan dew ------------------------------ From: "Maria Arango" Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 13:05:50 -0800 Subject: [Baren 13146] RE: Help please charset="iso-8859-1" Try our very own Ruth Leaf's web site: http://www.ruthleaf.com Awesome abstract work in the woodcuts section. Other "lesser" known artists that were/are excellent printmakers in non-representational subjects: Picasso, Miro, Judy Chicago, Ron Adams, Jim Dine, A. Yunkers, C. Romano, just for starters off the top of my noggen. Actually printmaking and abstraction go hand in hand in the modern world because of the spontaneity and variety of effects that are possible. Search for publications from Tamarind or Crown-Point Press for a wide variety of non-representational printmaking output. I had trouble with the black ink drying though so some of the prints are a little smudgy. It has been great to be in this exchange I really love getting my mail. I found Ruth's book on Intaglio Printmaking (1976) and sat down for a good hour of getting acquainted. Wonderful book, great reading and terrific prints (love those trees !). Highly recommended. New York resident ? {;-) Maria, I think some of your very own Out-of-the-Wood prints may qualify for "non-representational"....there is a certain abstractism that comes thru when letting the wood "speak", don't you agree ? Re wood engraving video, have not heard of any such animal on this side of the ocean, perhaps an endangered species ? Maybe Andy English in England knows wether such thing exists ? Dan, great news about the August show for #9, let me know if I can be of any help....... More snakes ready for updating to the website, will wait for todays mail to see what new surprises are slithering across my humble abode. Thanks to all. Carol is a well-known & published watercolor artist in the New York area who I believe came later into printmaking. Carol's current creative process is quite different from the representational imaging that most of us create. She has also worked with a process type called "decalcomania" which is closely tied to Surrealism. Have your friend check these images based on a square-format series and possibly contact Carol for more discussion: http://www.skokienet.org/bandits/jcrstuff/images/aalibi08s.jpg Julio ------------------------------ From: "Charles and Gail Sheffield" Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 18:53:33 -0800 Subject: [Baren 13157] Wolves and such charset="iso-8859-1" Ray: Put Mary Tallmountain's poem, The Last Wolf, on the Baren site.
