Baren Digest Friday, 2 March 2001 Volume 14 : Number 1340 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Cucamongie@aol.com Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 08:31:28 EST Subject: [Baren 13675] LSU, hair spray, etc Hi all, Pete, thanks for telling me, I didn't realize they were using one of my prints for the promo card, that's great! Is it the dogs in the truck print? They had chosen that print from last year's show for their promo t-shirts, but perhaps it's for the cards as well? I have a print up in this year's show too. Hair spray to fix drawings? I like that! Any particular brand that's good? I wonder what ingredient it is in the hair spray that does the trick? That seems a lot easier to deal with than the fixative sprays- thanks Dimitri- best wishes Sarah ------------------------------ From: Krista Harberson Date: Thu, 01 Mar 2001 22:17:11 +0900 Subject: [Baren 13676] Re: LSU, hair spray, etc for hairspray the cheaper the better. white rain or VO5 do well and seem to yellow the paper at a much slower rate. ------------------------------ From: GraphChem@aol.com Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 10:41:06 EST Subject: [Baren 13677] Re: unwoodlike question Sarah - Try using LithoCoal or ChromaCoal. These are charcoal-like materials that are heat fixable, not solvent fixed. They've been widely accepted for both printmakers (as a litho drawing material, and aquatint material) and those doing charcoal work. Additionally they have a prouduct that allows for marbeling paper, too. Contact Graphic Chemical (800-465-7382) for details. If you use tracing paper it's easy to look at it from the back side to see how it's going to print. Sarah, We used to use Final Net hairspray to fix pastels, charcoal and pencil drawings. I think it comes in a pump bottle now and while it doesn't smell delicious, I don't think it is as harmful as the heachache stuff. LithoCoal is manufactured by D'uva Fine Art Materials Inc., 1900 Broadway NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102, phone: 505/768-1121, www.lithocoal.com, email duva@lithocoal.com - and can be used on any substrate which can be heated t= o 250=B0 for 5 - 15 minutes until rendered immoveable. Happy printing! Why do you trust something that smells better to be better? We humans are so amazing. Garth ------------------------------ From: Lawrence Date: Fri, 02 Mar 2001 18:05:00 +1100 Subject: [Baren 13683] hair spray It is worth mentioning that hairspray causes a yellowing of the paper and a yellowing to the medium being sprayed. Fixative is designed to minimize this. I guess it depends on if you want yellow prints sooner or later! regards Lawrence ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest v14 #1340 *****************************
