This is such a limited use product line that it will know doubt result in one of two things. Create lower prices and that one of the two may go out of business. You guy's States side can hopefully support both. A little bit of "talking it up" promoting them from time to time might be good. >Welcome back, Graham. You are already livening up the digests! It turns out that a proof press is exactly what I had in mind, and now that I know what it's called I can do all kinds of searching and find one to buy. So, just to introduce myself briefly, since I didn't really do that in my previous post, I've been making wood and linocuts since I was 12 and even though I've done plenty of other kinds of art since then, I've always identified most with relief printing. I studied drawing and printmaking as an undergrad, but dropped out of the studio art program shortly before I graduated. At the moment I'm writing my masters thesis in art history, and with that and my day job, I don't have much time at all for printing or anything else. But I spend plenty of time imagining the things I'll make once I have free time again--mostly prints on fabrics. I haven't had much luck in the past getting rich black lines on fabric, but I'm sure once I have more time to experiment with techniques and inks and all that I can make it work. I'm full of ideas for everything from quilts of printed fabrics to stuffed pillows in the shapes of some of my images. Sounds a little silly and crafy, I know, and I avoided those kinds of things in the past in favor of artier fine art, but now I'm embracing my ideas and am going to see where they go. I have a couple of meagre efforts on a web site http://depicture.bigstep.com & with all the inspiration and info I get from you guys, more to come! Melissa Read-Devine; me thinks thee dost disemble! Those are fine works on your site. I was just in San Diego and ran into work in a downtown gallery by an artist who I believe in a Barren person. Her name is Elaine Pierce I think, she was from Portland. I don't remember names exactly unless i write them when I hear them but if you are out there and read this your work was seen and appreciated too! Your gallery rep is very responsible and charming. ------------------------------ From: Arafat Alnaim Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 13:53:10 -0800 (PST) Subject: [Baren 13817] Pochoir technique In answer to AryeÕs question about Pochoir. Pochoir technique is not really a printing technique, mass-produced paintings in which the outline is obtained by covering the paper with cardboard or metal stencil. The effect is that of a water colour or a gouache, depending on the paint used. Direct traces of the brush are often recognizable. The pochoir technique is generally used to colour black and white print.
