You want snakes? Hi, Dave, thanks for the snake addresses, couldn't see everything yet, but the ones I have seen - wow!!!- interesting and beautiful. One thing: they seem to me like being silk-screem and not woodblock, why? I did some drawings for snakes to engrave and send to "soup-exchange", but they stood only in painting. I did my reaserch for the snakes in the net and have found Duhrer. Thanks for sending us so beautiful and inspiring works besides language. Best wishes, Murilo Grisard Pereira, Florianópolis. PS - Don't know if you like but it's happening here in out city th Davis Copa = International Tennis, and better know that number one in mundial ranking is from here, our town became international for these days!!!!!!!. ------------------------------ From: GWohlken Date: Sat, 07 Apr 2001 09:43:29 -0400 Subject: [Baren 14128] Re: Baren Digest v15 #1381 Carol, I checked your site; had to do some gymnastics to get to you by typing your name in the search area. I like the transparent look of your prints. It's interesting how you turn the block different ways to make the patterns. You would have to have a good concept of the balance you want to achieve when working this way. If others couldn't find Carol's work, it's here: http://www.artfulstyle.com./artists/artist.asp?artistid=378&sid=&fid= Gayle Burton, Ohio ------------------------------ From: "bemason" Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2001 08:28:31 -0700 Subject: [Baren 14129] Re: N.Y. Times article Eli, thanks for this link, it was a fascinating story and one I did not know. Hard to believe Wright made his money selling prints...life's little surprises. Barbara > The N.Y. I neglected to give the link to the introduction page of his New Year card selection: http://www.woodlike.co.jp/gallery_nenga_top.html There you will see links to last year's dragons as well. By the way, his introductory material says that he received more than 900 hand-printed woodblock new year cards this year, and what you see on these pages is just a selection. His address is on his website, so when you do your 'horse' cards next year, you might consider putting him on your list - who knows, your card might appear on the page next time! (But if you do, please don't expect to get one back from him - a guy that get nearly a thousand cards can't realistically be expected to reply to them all ...) *** While we're talking about Matsumura-san, it might be worth tossing out that his new bilingual paper catalogue (which contains actual samples of all the papers he sells) is now in the final stage of preparation. As soon as we get firm details on it, we'll be letting you know how to get your copy.
