Baren Digest Friday, 20 April 2001 Volume 15 : Number 1394 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Wanda Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2001 09:49:42 -0700 Subject: [Baren 14197] Art Exhibits Thanks to all of you for the great discussion on mats & framing. I've saved all of those e-mails in a separate file. I'm sure every bit of it will come in handy. I have never had a show before and this is all new to me. It has always been a goal for me & now I'm doing it! It's only a small show, in the library of a college that I love. It is a nice space with brick & wood walls & lots of natural light. If you'd like to take a look at the college, here is the URL for their web site: http://marylhurst.edu/ My daughter, Lauren is a painter who graduated with her BFA in painting from Marylhurst last year. We are doing this show together - a mother/daughter show. It should be a lot of fun. Those of you who do a lot of shows, do you have advice for us beginners? Things to watch out for? Things you wish you had done & didn't? Funny things that happened? Speaking of funny things: A friend of mine was very worried about her show. She paints the street-kids of Portland, Oregon. (She also works at local shelters & is friends with these kids) She was worried about how the paintings would be recieved by the art-buying public. I told her: "Are you kidding? They are beautiful, soulful paintings. People will love them" After the show, she told me that people were so nice, telling her over & over again how beautiful & full of feeling the paintings were. She said that one lady came up to her & said "hello" and she replied: "Oh, thank you so much" before the woman even had a chance to say anything! She was really embarrassed - but the lady was going to say nice things - they just had them out of order! :-) Wanda ------------------------------ From: ArtfulCarol@aol.com Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2001 18:09:52 EDT Subject: [Baren 14198] Re: Art Exhibits Wanda I suggest a "presentation" in addition to the opening date. You will increase the interest and viewers that way Talk about your art, invite questions. That is a good experience for the artist and challenging.! What did I forget? Last time- to have Guest list with addresses. So obvious. Make sure to use the list for the next time.. Good Luck!
