Baren Digest Wednesday, 16 May 2001 Volume 15 : Number 1421 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: flint Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 06:52:05 -0700 Subject: [Baren 14446] Paper Suggestions and Pencils I've recently been asked to put my personal online journal which is depicted through woodblock prints into a gallery type setting . It is a digital setting, so I do not have any good prints to actually submit. In fact I've been using run-of-the-mill typing paper which is then scanned for electronic posterity. I'm looking for suggestions into an acid free paper. Is it sin not to be archival?. What I'm searching for is a medium weight paper, white-ish, but not harsh in brightness. Then again, I do not want it to be tan-ish either. It doesn't have to be a, ahem, 'rice' paper; heck, Arches or Reves would be dandy. My current method is using a brayer to transfer water-based ink onto the plate and using a barren for pressure. Simple. The second question is in regard to text. I'd like to use pencil, as I'm sure there would be an occasional mistake in writing out the text. Is graphite okay long term? Hardness: 2H, 4H, HB? What about using ink if I were brave enough to avoid mistakes? I'm sure the paper question has come up, but I've yet to find it in the archives. Not too sure about the pencil/pen bit, it too may be in the archives. Obviously, any help would be much appreciated. ------------------------------ From: "bemason" Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 09:17:05 -0700 Subject: [Baren 14447] Re: Paper Suggestions and Pencils Flint, The pencil is OK and usually softer is better for the paper, but this is your choice. Hiromi paper has paper that can be put through the printer and there is a German company that had a lot of paper for digital printmaking at the southern graphics conference....I will try to find the informaiton for you when I go to my studio. Look at http://www.hiromipaper.com and ask them, they will help you. You could ask on a digital site, I am sure they would know about archival paper for this application. Best to you, Barbara ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest v15 #1421 *****************************
