I want the best >possible materials for the task at hand. There is no comparison, not even a >close call, on the way good paper behaves when printmaking. And this goes double, triple or quadruple for hanga on good washi! It is the best paper, and the technique that is most sensitive to the quality of the paper. There IS real art that's not archival (like fluxus)--but I don't think those artists are on this list. >Real prints belong on >real paper. That would, in my opinion, include digital prints, an art form >in their own right. Thank you again, Maria. Paper is fabulous (but under-rated) stuff. The substrate makes a huge difference in digital printing, too. They look great on washi, but a little tricky to do with the deckle. I am printing 36" x 36" digital on Mylar rolls, which seems to match the mechanical quality of the printing. I mean it's nice stuff, translucent. Not amazing like washi, but a good match for the medium. That's the key, being sensitive to what is good for your image, and works with your technique. I will be leaving June 2, and returning June 26. Will also be going to New York City on art business July 7 to 19. Would like to visit you, your exhibits, and also print studios if possible. Yours, Le Green Stonemetal Press Email: legreenart@cs.com ------------------------------ From: "Jean Eger" Date: Wed, 23 May 2001 22:54:45 -0700 Subject: [Baren 14546] Snake list charset="iso-8859-1" Ok, OK, I signed up for the snake print twice, inadvertently. Someone emailed, "hurry up, go sign up for the snake exchange, there's only two days left," or something like that. So I dashed over and signed up. That was the second time I signed up. Of course, there was no way to get that out of the list, once it was on the internet. People print it out and they were sending me snakes to beat the band. I have them all, well, almost all. I sent a few back, but saved the rest until school is out and I can breathe. On the other hand, you'd think poeple would look at the lsit and see the mistake, and only send me one snake. The list was much longer than I anticipated. So I might owe a few snakes, but not very many. So if you didn't receive a snake hiding under the nasturium plant, please e-mail me and tell me so. I'm already working on the horse for next year. Jean http://www.jeaneger.com ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest v15 #1430 *****************************
