My name is Princess Simpson Rashid ( Believe it or not...that's my real name.) I've been a 'phantom' observer for about a year now but I finally feel ready to contribute to the group. I learned about you guys from one of my professors, Haydee Landing, at Escuela de Artes Plastica (School of Plastic Arts) in Puerto Rico. (Great Experience!!!) I studied printmaking and painting there intensely from 1998-2000. I'm now in Jacksonville, Fl with my husband and 5 month old baby girl, Jana Lael. I love all forms of printmaking, especially relief. Right now, I plan to focus on developing my skills in woodcutting and eventually learn Japanese methods. During my pregnancy I was on bed rest for 3 months. All I could do was fill up sketchbooks with drawings. Now I have a lot of material to work from. So now all I have to do is change diapers, breastfeed, etc.....and.......... Cut and Print!!!!!!... I don't have a web address yet but I'm working on it... It is now Tuesday and I am just back! I agree about using a lovely workable paper that makes a piece of work stand out wonderfully. My experience tho is with a paper I am not sure is or is not archival, altho all the materials are natural. I looked and found this to be the nicest paper i could find for a print i was running and got an enormous amount of compliments on the print. So I like to use what makes the piece work the best and usually the finest paper is also what works the best. I am not disagreeing with the usage only wondering if some times we do not fuss over much. But than I guess with a great deal of good fortune I could become some famous person in history. And I agree totally that we should tell our consumers about the quality of materials we use. If a piece is not archival but done on a cheap paper than the price and the label should reflect this. Many do not want to pay or care to worry about archival at fairs and street festivals. They want a cheap souvineir. But in a gallery I would far prefer my work to be of the highest quality. I guess I questioned this for an exchange print as I do not know the quality and expectations of the group and obviously they are high so I will most certainly respect that and make my piece on quality paper. Happy sunny Tuesday to all. Welcome, Wow I wanted to wish you welcome but the name thing stopped me cold. How do I address you? When the Darth Vader movies were popular people would tease me about my name playing with Darth/Garth but that was better than when i was a child and no one could hear the name literally without a 5 minute explanation of old family name etc. so in the the spirit of les majesty (sp) and so you can stop lurking around, "what do you friends call you"?
