Chairs would be my first choice--30 interpretations of 'chair' would be very interesting indeed. I agree that sticking with one orientation (verticle or horizontal) would be of benefit. I really like the themed exchanges the most because I am inevitably pushed a bit to explore and problem solve in a way that wouldn't necessarily occur on its own. Good things have evolved from this--for example, I've done a whole series of endangered animal prints, and I'm still going strong with ideas related to this theme. This is a great group we've got! A couple of clarifications: 1. This is not an exchange. Consider it like a show, for which you'll only have to submit one or perhaps a couple of prints produced from the plate or plates. =20 2. We are not under the same sort of time constraints as an exchange, either. I would like to look at a 12-month deadline for final submissions. The first task in the short run will be to (a) enlist as many Baren printmakers as possible; (b) more clearly define the limits of the project; and (c) begin agreeing on which artist will tackle which bit of text. 3. I see this as a juried show -- i.e., not every volunteer participant or every piece of submitted work will necessarily be accepted for inclusion. This is the only way to ensure a high level of quality and protects all participants. There is no reason that this proviso should discourage any interested Baren printmakers. More later as necessary! >One suggestion, I think we should keep the comments ON list. Makes for = exciting conversation. I was intrigued by the image of the orchestra with each instrument contributing its own flavor to create the whole. An orchestra practices together and I envisioned the artists working together on the individual pieces. Not physically together but keeping each other aware of the individual pieces as they came into being. As a player adjusts his volume and style to create the blend, an artist could react to the developments occuring in other pieces being created which could in turn react to the new elements and refinements so inspired. Hmm... I was thinking about you last week when I was updating my cv. I was very very grateful to the baren members who have been organising exhibitions and very pleased at the contribution such exhibitions had made to the content of my lowly cv. I cant thank you all enough - only hope to reciprocate by doing the same through PA. Its been very interesting to see the similarity of ideas on exchange themes from two 'sister' groups of printmakers. I hope we can continue to complement each other and our related activities. PA is just finishing 'what is a print?' as a theme and a 'print supplies' theme on baren would complement this beautifully - thoughts of the potential for another joint exhibition, such as Gayles forthcoming 'endangered species' one, here. I thought your idea for a narratve exchange a very good one and similar to the 'Illustration' theme which we are about to sign up for on PA. I would like to bookmark your idea for future use on PA, with your permission, and would invite you to join us, should we run such an exchange. Though I would steer well away from religious material or biblical references and use a secular text instead. We have been toying with the idea of an artist's book where the prints are bound as part of the exchange - a narrative theme would be ideal for this. As always I find your infrequent posts very stimulating.
