Baren Digest Tuesday, 5 June 2001 Volume 15 : Number 1445 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: FurryPressII@aol.com Date: Mon, 4 Jun 2001 20:17:17 EDT Subject: [Baren 14730] Re: greg's project, kama sutra, exhibit list speaking of the kiama sutra and the non baren e-mail i got before jilio's about the size of male parts made me think of "pillow books" or shungra as subject for an excqange. ROFL, LOL ETC. As the size of that member is of note in pillow books. The floating world was a distinct period in Japanese history which is almost as far away from modern Japan as it is from western modern history. Due to the social and economic history of fuedual Japan that the merchant class had no political outlets for its new found wealth and thus spent it on things, one of which was the liscenced brothals which played a much different social role than the ones in the state of Nevada. Bur art in the west was much different 500 years ago as well, the intent was much different than cujrren t art. An example of this would be the Sistene Chapel when it was painted it would not even be considered as art as we know it but as part of the chuch dogma. My view of church history wouold be much different than a christian view of it. An example of this would be my view of the Spanish Inqujsistion. A Jewish view of christian art is a subject i have done in the past. But as far as it being a subject, remember this is history, written history. Is it really religion? Do we have to think of this as religion or personal ? And I would love to see what people of different beleifs and faiths would create, to share what comes from their hearts. I am sad for those who have experienced terrible religious prejudices in life, we in this country try so hard go practice freedom of religion. Should we not also practice it on Baren? I hate juried shows and usually steer away from them. I have seen wondeful work juried out due to specific prejudices, such as the juror did not like watercolors, so almost no watercolor artists got in. I would not even enter a juried baren show because I am too new at this media to think I would have any chance of truly getting in. But if you must limit it and want the best artists, i guess it is fair enough. Often we take a road even tho it will leave smoe behind so that it is better overall. Also I am so busy sweeping dusting and mopping , to sell this house I would never promise a piece. so take my words for as little as they count. This IS NOT A BAREN SPONSORED EVENT! Greg just tossed out the idea of putting together a collabaration of artists who WISHED to PARTICIPATE, knowing that some will make it in the show/book/pamphlet, etc.... and some not. No one HAS TO participate. It's a choice. Period. CUT! A great collection. Interesting size too, it seems hard to work so small, but sure was inexpensive for the paper! Wish I could see them all on the wall in Skokie! Since we want as many Baren members to participate as possible, we will follow up on this list a couple of times in the future so that everyone interested gets a chance to participate. Also, since so many Baren members are interested, we will keep the group informed on progress. I, for one, am very excited about this project since religion has always fascinated me as a social and psychological phenomenon. I have volunteered my website for general information and later for the exciting images that this project promises. The list is a Topica list, easy to use, self-archiving, no banners, private to members, unmoderated and unabashed. PLEASE subscribe as soon as possible and we will take our conversation a-yonder. If you have trouble subscribing zap me a private email and I will do it for you. Here are the links in question. TyRuS OOOOOh I like the idea of doing a 'kama sutra exchange'. I presume you are refering to the book. Having never read either the bible ( I was raised an Australian catholic) or the kama sutra I would be interested in expanding my knowlege base. :-) Patricia. ------------------------------ From: "Patricia" Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2001 17:19:49 +1000 Subject: [Baren 14739] Re: Gospels charset="iso-8859-1" - ----- Original Message ----- From: Printmaker To: Sent: Wednesday, June 06, 2001 8:29 AM Subject: [Baren 14727] Gospels > Greg > > Are you going to include the Gospel according to Mary > Magdeline that was edited out as apocrypha presumably > because it represented the women's voice? > > Josephine > I too am a MM fan Josehine. It would be fun to include different gospels, the other hand it could become an opportunity to provide an alternative perspective on the biblical ones. :-) Patricia ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V15 #1445 *****************************
