I didn't realize that you know everything and are always right. Pardon me. You know, it IS OK to use Speedball ink, rollers or any other product you might choose. I used Hunt products when I first started making linocuts thirty-five years ago, and because they sell a product today that encourages students to take up relief printing that's OK too. I also have a framed copy of my first print and it's holding up just fine. Since you don't know what chemistry makes up the ink how can you say it is no good? De asini umbra disceptare! Is there a relief printing chat list out there where people actually share information rather than make pronouncements about how much more they know than everyone else? There are so few of us printmakers that if we don't stick together we will surely fall apart. Lets just agree to disagree and go forward, being as helpful as we can and encouraging all the new printmakers on the list to keep cutting and printing. I think all information is good and the more we know about our materials the better, but slapping each other around is pretty unproductive. Lets expend all that energy cutting a new block! Best to all, Barbara ------------------------------ From: "bemason" Date: Sat, 18 Aug 2001 19:41:53 -0700 Subject: [Baren 15432] Re: Paper Robert, I think you just have to try it. I got some paper from Tibet and it soaked up so much water you could use it as a sponge...but it was so rough that it didn't print very well dry. So do a few tests with it. Let us know how it works, we are always interested in new stuff! I would be happy to put work in your show, I remember talking to you during my show in Portland at Waterstone Gallery his spring, but forgot about your fall show. Can you email me off list with the particulars? Thanks. I will tell other printmakers here that I know about it. Best to you, Barbara bemason@concentric.net >Hi, >Does anyone know anything about Viet Namese papers? >A friend is bringing me a bunch of hand made paper to print on and I no >nothing about the type of fibers they use, how stable it is, etc. >Seams like there was a push a few years back for a grass fiber from Cambodia >that was as good as Gampi or kozo. >Thanks >Robert Canaga >We are having a "Works on Paper show in the Gallery in Dec. if any of my >fellow Oregonians would be interested. ------------------------------ From: "Garth Hammond" Date: Sat, 18 Aug 2001 22:25:55 -0600 Subject: [Baren 15433] Re: Whelan press Thanks, Wow 12K For some reason I thought it would be less. The image i had of the Whelan was small and portable. I hadn't put it in the same league with the big Takach units. I would have to give up painting to spring for one of the those. garth ------------------------------ From: "Garth Hammond" Date: Sat, 18 Aug 2001 22:27:20 -0600 Subject: [Baren 15434] Re: Ink Quality but I am finding your attitude to be the one that is offensive.
