What kind of people kill possibly 100,000+ people for a cause? Can we ever make enough art to soothe this wound? I have only been awake 15 minutes and think I am in shock. Will we ever be able to relax again? Or take a plane flight again without fear? My heart and prayers go out to the families damaged and destroyed today. What a terrible unnecessary waste of life. I agree... however anger is not the best means. Where I work we have a spirituality statement... here is an excerpt from the end of it: "There is one common denominator in all our programs: forgiveness. It is our conviction whether in school violence or matters of government, it is never okay to get even. We believe it is so important that we offer our Forgiving and Letting Go audio cassette free of charge to those who ask for it (mailing charges do apply)." Instead of anger, forgive and be forgiven. I was fully awake when the unbelievable act of violence was set around 15.00h but since that time I feel like being trapped in a nightmare. My thoughts are with our US especially NY members. But I should echo Brad. Such acts are possible because of anger and hate. The german chancellor called today's terrorism "an attack on the civilized world". We should proof this by our response. michael vienna austria "Brad A. The students came in and sat down and were terribly silent. I remarked that the only time in my teaching experience in which the history of print class is so silent is after they have spent an hour looking at Goya's Disasters of War - the similarity was uncanny. The class session was this morning, a few hours after the full scope of todays events started to unfold. We got around to Durer although the discussion often came back to what happened today, and three students were visibly shaken throughout the 90 minute period. Just a report to mark the day.
