Baren Digest Monday, 17 September 2001 Volume 16 : Number 1558 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "eli griggs" Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 11:43:24 -0400 Subject: [Baren 15708] Re: Baren Digest V16 #1555 -- benefit prints Hi there: Bea, I would like to suggest that we keep the Open Exchange as it is, so that any works in response to the 11.9.01 events be presented as separate and whole portfolios in their own right. Because many of us are considering making 11.9.01 prints, for Baren or elsewhere, I would also suggest that the Open Exchange paper size be keep relatively small, so as not to over tax the resources and energies of our members. Perhaps we could split the difference between the paper sizes of the #6 and #10 exchange for a new format? I also believe that fund raising should be keep separate from the normal exchanges. Artist/printmakers that have not yet taken part in our exchanges may not want to make their first contributions under the pressure of a fund raiser. On the other hand, John Center and others seem to have a good handle on the 11.9.01 projects and anyone who wants to contribute will easily find an exchange/project. Some new ideas. I have spent lot of quality time with my family this week. To my Baren family...Please count me in for whatever projects we want to put forth regarding Tuesday's events. John, any help you need coordinating the projects let me know. As you know, we live only a few minutes away from each other. I am sure many bareners would want to join in this benefit project, possibly a lot more than the 30 limit per exchange. Would it be more practical and to have a special project...aside from #12...since we won't be getting prints back...the number of participants is not a limitation...the more bareners involved, the bigger the statement we can make as a group... I read a quote today which hits home when faced with such tragedy and the senseless loss of lives and the valiant effort of so many volunteers...the exact words escape me.... " There are no extraordinary people...only regular folks that rise to the ocassion when faced with extraordinary events..." god bless....Julio ------------------------------ From: barebonesart Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 15:39:52 -0700 Subject: [Baren 15710] Re: Baren Digest V16 #1557 Steve, what a wonderful project your daughter has completed. Thank you for sharing. And, Gregory, your letter melted my heart, also. I am worried about ethnic stereotyping and persecution. We can only hope that won't happen - but, I fear it will. Especially with the media hype and all the speculation and inuendo. I wish they would just stick to the facts. I know they put a comment in to discourage any nasty ethnic events, but then they launch right back in to the story. Barbara, as usual, has the idea of the century - sell all 30 of the portfolios. I think that sounds like an excellent idea - but, who is going to do the marketing? We can talk about that as we're working on the prints, but lets get the prints started! Since I am a mixed print media person, how much of this print has to be woodblock? All or just part? Sharri ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V16 #1558 *****************************
