Baren Digest Wednesday, 19 September 2001 Volume 16 : Number 1560 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: GWohlken Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 10:54:04 -0400 Subject: [Baren 15720] Re: Baren Digest V16 #1559 Print Project John, with more than 30 people participating, how would the folios be put together amount-wise. If each folio had 30 prints, and there were, say, 48 people sending prints, there wouldn't be enough left to make another 30-print folio. Would there be two folios with 24 prints each, for instance, so buyers would have a choice of two separate folios to choose from? Somehow, I'm thinking that buying whole folios might not work because of uneven skill of our participants. Dave's folios work because they are all the same artist on the same paper, and there is a continuity to the look of them. But with ours, a buyer might love one print for the choice of paper the artist used, as well as the look of the print, and not like another so much. What if the prints were sold individually, instead? Gayle > 2. As many as wish to may participate in this project. ------------------------------ From: "bemason" Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 09:05:00 -0700 Subject: [Baren 15721] Print Project Gayle, The fact that the work is uneven and from the heart of artists no matter what their skill level will increase the value of this portfolio rather than detract from it. I think that we should open the the edition to as many as want to participate and put as many portfolios together as we can with all the prints. This will give us 30 portfolios with more than 30 prints, plus one for our own archives. This work will be an easy sell in any city in the USA, especially after it is exhibited. The fact that all the work is donated, we do not have to be concerned with keeping the folios to only 30 prints, as long as we get 30 folios. Each person would be doing 31 prints, just like always. I am sure that we can find venues all across the USA and possibly in other countries. Greg has already volunteered to exhibit it in Edinburgh and we have a venue in Portland at the NWPC. Skokie may step up to the bat. We can also just ask for donations and by the time this work is exhibited, be may have a more clear idea of the need. I think the NY FD is great and am sure they can use all donations, so even if the portfolio doesn't sell for $3000, which would surprise me, we will raise money at the exhibits. It is a win, win for everyone. Perhaps we can even get some art organizations or museums involved with the exhibits. Steve in KS is thinking on it, either as a participant or possibly a venue. Every large library in every city has exhibition space, the bareners will find spots for the exhibits. It is like a giant snoball, the farther it rolls the larger it gets and the faster it goes. Life is indeed unexpected. I wanted so much to participate in the flora exchange because that is my main subject for all of my artwork. I did not participate and I bowed out of the salon de refuse early out of courtesy for those who were participating. i did not want to be late. As a newbie to exchanges and ralatively new to this group and I think new to printmaking I feel it is a privilege to participate in an exchange. Some people are always late and make pounds of excuses. I think they should not be included in the exchange and late prints mailed back to the one who sent them in. Yes we would all loose from not getting the prints but next time they would think twice before they joined an exchange and start early so if life gets hectic they have time to handle it. i printed my series over because i did not like the paper I was using, if I had time to do it twice everyone should have time to do it once. I too am busy. I have many responsibilities here and am moving and have spent this week matting and framing 17 prints for seattle. Yes put the places where you make money first, but if you sign for an exchange know if you are late the prints will be mailed back to you unused by the exchange and you will have wasted your time doing them at all. Simply do not accept late prints.
