Baren Digest Sunday, 14 October 2001 Volume 17 : Number 1586 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "bemason" Date: Sat, 13 Oct 2001 07:29:45 -0700 Subject: [Baren 15934] Print Alliance OK, Maria, big slap. The print alliance wants us, go figure! So we have been invited to join conditionally, full membership, but we need to eventually get our non profit status which is in the works. No cost to any baren member or to baren itself. Of course you can subscribe to the magazine if you choose and it is very nice. So any baren member who wants to be included can say they are a member of the American Print Alliance....may look good on your resume. As for the benefit, if anyone wants to do this I will deal with it, so send the 8x10 vertical print to me. Each print will commerate a single life lost in the trade towers, a celebration of that life. This exhibition will have a big venue, could be shown in lots of places. Send prints to me and I will scan them for the web and package them in the display holders and send to the alliance. Please let me know if you would like to take part so the alliance knows how many display packages to buy. The symposium is still going on, the wrap up party is tonight. Went out to dinner last night with lots of people from the NW PRint council, and Peggy and Joe Pool from Takach Press Corp, Dan Welden from Solar Plate and Ralph from Dick Blick (forgot his last name, sorry) and it was just so much fun. I met Cate Pfifer from baren, maybe not spelled right, and many people I have known from other conferences. Even though the attendence is not as large as we had hoped, everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. I have two back to back demos today for the Oregon Art Educators, so off to work. Best to all, Barbara > The Print Alliance benefit is guided by the Print Alliance, has its own > prospectus and guidelines and was only mentioned in Baren because we thought > it would be of interest to printmakers. One of the requirements is that you > belong to one of the many organizations under the Print Alliance umbrella > and pay dues. > Confusing the thing is the announcement that Barbara made that the Print > Alliance may include Baren as one of its member organizations. THIS HAS NOT > HAPPENED YET, as far as I understand it. Barbara, slap me if I'm wrong. So > if you want to participate in the Print Alliance thing, go to their web site > and read all about it. > > They are independent benefits. If you have another print that might celebrate life send it. This is not to be an exhibition of 6000 prints of the trade center falling down but a celebration of the lives of individuals. So a much broader theme and many people will already have a suitable contribution, as all or most of our work celebrates life in general, and could relate to one life in particular. So I think anyone who wants to send work can do so. This year's animal is the horse. This may be a sensitive subject with some as there were approx. a dozen people or so who did not mail cards last year after signing up. Pete (who ran the signup list) and myself (who ran the website for the images) both fall under this infamous group. We are both willing to do the work again and keep the tradition going....much like in 1999 (dragons) & 2000 (snakes)...this year's animal is a worthy subject to explore. It would be a wonderful thing to look ten years down the road and see a completed series of prints based on the Chinese New Year calendar. Certainly a collection worth publishing either in book or cd format! All I am asking here is for some feedback as to wether we want to continue with the series..... The general idea is to make postcard sized prints (4X6") enough for you yourself to mail one to every person on the signup list...,,it can be in any traditional print medium (no Giclee's or Computer printed works...( I guess computer "assisted" is okay ?) with list signup closing on 12/21/01 and with an approx. delivery date of 01/31/2002. I think is only fair that people who did not delivered last year's prints would not be allowed to signup again until fullfilling last year's exchange. Who knows...there may still be outhere some 'snakes' looking for new homes! So there it is....let me know your thoughts on or off list and if enough people want to do it... we will get the signup list going again..... thanks....Julio ------------------------------ From: "bemason" Date: Sat, 13 Oct 2001 21:38:18 -0700 Subject: [Baren 15940] horses Julio, Of course we want to do horses!
