For those printmaking folks in NYC and thereabout, as you may know, the IFPDA Print fair at the Armory was canceled, but I received an invitation for an alternative event where a bunch of IFPDA members will be this Thurs-Saturday 11 am-6 pm at The Lynden Gardens Hotel, 215 E. 64th Street between 2nd and Third Avenue. I'm going to try to go today or tomorrow, I'll give a report if I do. best wishes Sarah ------------------------------ From: "Bill H Ritchie Jr" Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2001 06:40:50 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16093] Akira Kurosaki I'm a fan of Akira Kurosaki--as I know many other people in the Pacific Northwest are. He visited Seattle and Portland many times early in his career as a global actor, local thinker. Now Gregory Robison tells us Akira rides again! Bravo! The last word I heard, from Eugene OR was that Kurosaki was seeking a publisher for his video series made about ten years ago in Japan by NHK (the equivalent of the United States' Public Television. I had hopes he'd find one, and even thought a Pacific Northwest producer could be found to do it. But I guess people don't think hanga has that big of a draw--which we all know reflects the undervaluation of this particular means of working for visual, communicative artists. And, in my opinion, highly socially and environmentally conscious artists. I'd go one step further and say economic, but that's another dimension. I want to remind people that as a fan and student of Kurosaki's model, I've kept his Seattle sojurns alive on video, and the first primitive DVD I made was on his 1981 visit here. DVD for home players made by "home workers" may still be a little way off, but I've continued to make DVDs as part of my new printmaking routine. With more support from other printmakers, professors and institutions, creative and regenerative artists like Kurosaki will find a new voice and greater value will be placed on human creativity in the free fine arts. Anyone interested in being on my "DVD Publisher's Club" mail list (a very small list, indeed!) just ask and you shall receive them temporarily. No obligation. Bill H. Push pins can be used instead of having to frame. Prints may be placed in plastic bags. Guesss who just got Jury Duty for Jan.? Yes!. But I can't imagine that it will run through Feb. Maybe I won't be "selected" Anyone nearby want to help to put this up? It should not be difficult. It would be a few days before the 12th. I am at the Tappan Zee Bridge, NY side, across the street from the Metro-North RR Station, Husdon Line . (Full art and historic tour included) Is anyone else setting up a Firemens Benefit Exhibit in their area? The Blocks collected prints and supported printmakers, and their collection is wonderful, as is their stunning namesake museum! The exhibit that closed Sunday was the 'college proofs' of the Riverhouse Editions Collection. The collection will be held at the Museum for study. Wonderful, expansive creative prints! Check the on-line exhibits. Also there is an extraordinary current collection through Dec.9 of "Prints by Sculptors"...what an insightful way to see sculptors! Excellent prints! I highly recommend getting to this show! Also in Chicago, the terrific Van Gogh/Gauguin "Studio of the South" at the Art Institute through January 13, 2002 and "The Yellow House" through Feb. 10. Come to Chicago! If so, they wanted to have it go from branch to branch each month. I haven't responded to her yet, simply because I wasn't sure how to make that work. Daniel L. The NWPC does this all the time. Each branch is responsible for the prints while they have them and for sending them in good shape to the next one. won't we have more than one copy of the exhibit? Say 30 copies? Barbara From: "Daniel Dew" > My local library system wanted me to ask if we were willing to make this a > travelling exhibition.
