Glad to see Robert posting, welcome, Roberrt. We need to get a little new blood active and get to know each other. Not that I am tired of old friends, just lots of room for new ones. I finished the fireman prints...seemed to take longer than usual from idea to print, must be the holidays. So they will just be under the deadline, I will ship them on the 31st, they should be dry by then. Also, have my horses about 1/3 done and they are lined up kicking in the studio. I sort of hate to let them go, they looks so cute dancing around in there. Maybe I will take their picture before they depart. Ruth Leaf, what kind of paper did you use for your horse? It was so yummy, so soft yet gave nice crisp lines. Is it handmade? I was very taken with both the horse and the paper. #11 arrived and is wonderful, I now have 2 copies of Maria's cactus so think I will break up 11.5 and frame one, I am so thrilled with it. I need more walls, I will have to hang floor to ceiling pretty soon. Happy New Year Best to all, Barbara, your tireless mall manager PS...a new batch of WINTER Yamaguchi paper will be on its way to the mall in a couple of weeks, so get ready to order. Everyone who uses it for hanga just throws their other paper away...(Wanda's words) ------------------------------ From: "marilynn" Date: Fri, 28 Dec 2001 10:00:08 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16586] Re: Baren Digest V17 #1668 Georga I agree with Barbara the clear bags are great instead of shrink wrap. I sometimes use mine to store my series in also . A shrink wrap machine is so costly and that has to be stored in you studio somewhere too , along witn everything else! The bags are not very spendy and if you get one a bit larger you can always tape it back a bit smaller for a smaller size peice and it still looks good from the front. I do think they are quite professional to use. I volunteer to act as intermediary; you may send your prints in a tube or any other manner to me and I will take care of tenderly unrolling them and placing them in proper packaging. I will then forward to Rudolph along with mine so that you may participate. I will also return your packages to you and please don't worry about return shipping (DO NOT send any money). Horatio, particularly you, if I receive any more money from you I will burn it mercilessly [;-)] Please send your large-exchange prints to: Maria Arango 2544 Casey Drive Las Vegas, NV 89120-1819 USA On the box-wood from Matsumura-san (you may order from the Baren Mall): http://barenforum.org/mall/products/boxwood.html (ohh, Daaave, pics don't show up!) I just received 4 pieces of the large diameter boxwood circles. These are polished so beautifully on both sides that I sat there admiring them for a very long time. Boxwood is used in woodblock (Hanga) to add plugs to the standard cherry for very fine detail (someone slap me silly if I just said something stupid), and it is the priced wood for wood engravers. But in the hands of this wanna-be engraver, these beauties will be scratched with burins and other sharp weapons and made to yield the light that composes a fine wood engraving. I can't even begin to describe the glass-like feel of this beautiful tight-grained surface that speaks on its own of the images it holds inside. And, incidentally (she says coming back down to earth), these are large and thick! I believe I will engrave them as they are, in the very interesting irregular circular shape that they came. Both sides, of course! Much health to all, Maria, back from vacation, refreshed and re-energized and roaring to go! <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Maria Arango Las Vegas, Nevada, USA http://www.1000woodcuts.com maria@mariarango.com <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ------------------------------ From: barebonesart Date: Fri, 28 Dec 2001 15:44:35 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16589] Re: Baren Digest V17 #1668 The heating pad sounds like a good idea for lino - I use a warming tray and that works very well. I also know people who keep an iron set on low next to them and use that to heat the area they are working on. As for shrinkwrapping - I recommend the bags, too. Collectors like to see work up close and personal and often want it removed from its wrap. With the bags it just goes back in - no big deal, but with shrinkwrap you get to wrap all over again. Seems like such a waste. Clearbags.com has every size you can imagine and they are acid free.
