Baren Digest Sunday, 30 December 2001 Volume 17 : Number 1670 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Rudolf Stalder" Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2001 09:49:22 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16593] Large Print Exchange Large Print Exchange Good news first: John Centers' prints arrived yesterday. Package in general in good condition, but strong enforcement of the corners clearly needed ! In regard of Horatio and Juan: I told both of them that given the circumstances any type of mailing would be fine. Money no problem. Juan emailed me yesterday that he is dropping from the exchange, as one of his previous print-mailings got stuck in spite of all necessary measure of documentation taken. I haven't heart from Horatio yet. Not meeting the dead-line of 28-Feb-02 means that prints arriving later cannot be re-distributed in relation to this exchange, but - clearly - eventually in connection to another event of this kind at a later date. Please contact me for any problems. The only real problem is the unknown one. best regards Rudolf ------------------------------ From: Bobbi Chukran Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2001 12:05:03 -0500 Subject: [Baren 16594] lino warming and shrink wrap Thanks to all who gave ideas for warming the linoleum blocks. Ya'll are a wealth of information! Also, thanks for the idea of using the bags for packaging--I was also wondering about that. I have a whole box of those leftover from my pattern publishing days....as long as I do small prints, I'm set for life! If Baren is a member, does that mean we can enter our print with no addidtional membership fee? Or are we supposed to subscribe to the journal in order to enter the Memorial exhibition? The original plan was to use push-pins which may or may not be used alone. John will be here to help and advise. We will do our best to do what looks best. Just place the paper between the iron and the plastic and use very little pressure. Do the backside first, then reverse it and iron the front - simple and fairly fast. But, bags are more simple and a lot faster. Happy New Year, Sharri ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2001 18:50:41 -0600 Subject: [Baren 16600] Re: Baren Exchange #11 arrives - first impressions! 12/29/2001 06:50:40 PM The prints from #11 arrived yesterday, safely, many thanks to Michelle Morrell for her wonderful job coordinating the exchange and getting all these folios home. Thanks and great job to all participants. First impressions. As usual, many wonderful prints and quite an array of diversity in technique and interpretation. While secretly hoping that this would not turnout to be an exchange with just thirty generic type "flower" prints...I was surprised at the quite large range of interpretation taken. To clarify, nothing wrong with flower prints, actually I consider some of the best images in this exchange those of flowers. You know what I mean, hopefully, diversity is good!. Yet, with some of the prints, it is not quite clear to me the "flora" relationship, ????? Since my own print (Sun Theme #11) may fall among this grouping of loosely defined "flora" images....here is a little analysis from the artist's point of view....(of course, only the people that have received the prints can equate at this time, but since is Saturday night and I am at home bored to death waiting for my printing paper to get "wet"....I ramble on.....) Baren Exchange #11 Artist: Julio Rodriguez Ttitle: Sun Theme #11. The image manifests the important relationship and balance between animal and plant life and the sustaining role that the Sun plays in our ecosystem. The human figure (representing animal life) is holding a sunflower plant and both are forever bound inside a sphere of light which represents mother earth. I intentionally placed the figures in a somewhat circular pose to indicate the importance of balance and life-cycles. The sun (represented by the large rectangle below the central image ) is the "supporting" force that keeps mother earth in balance. Rather than a typical representation of sun, sunlight, etc....this somewhat abstract depiction best relates my feelings on the image. This image evolved from some thoughts on man/flora...relationships, which of the two is the dominating life force on earth ? Which really drives our ecosystem ? Which is essential to evolution ? thanks...Julio Rodriguez (rambling on from Skokie, Illinois) ------------------------------ From: "Lee and Barbara Mason" Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2001 19:30:43 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16601] Re: Baren Digest V17 #1669 No additional membership fee, just the $1 for the bag and shipping, you do not have to subscribe to the journal.
