I'm primarily a painter currently living and working in Toronto but have been making woodcuts off and on over the years - I had originally started off doing sculpture and turning to woodcuts satisfies the desire to sculpt. I produce small editions (12 B & W) and even smaller editions of (6) hand coloured prints (all hand printed). I'd like to pass on my URL [ www.LCassArt.com] which has some prints on it - they can also be viewed on several online galleries - the best being [www.worldprintmakers.com]- I now recognize some names from the Barenforum on it. It's a delight to find a site devoted exclusively to the woodcut and I've enjoyed looking at everyone's work on it. Incidentally, apologies to Barbara Mason for asking if you're a printmaker- I see splendid works on printmakers.com - but you don't appear to be on the Barenforum?? I had also done other varieties of intaglio work as a student in the U.K. (Central School of Arts & Crafts in London where one had the luxury of a master printer pull the prints - they wouldn't allow students near the presses! I only recently discovered you people thru' American Print Alliance sending me a request for a contribution to the Sept 11 Memorial Portfolio they're planning. Are any of you Barenforumers sending work to this? And, by the way,I've benefitted already from advice handed out by Maria Arango - namely cleaning up with baby oil -I don't know why I stuck to mineral spirits for so long - thanks Maria- your stories of the recent art fair reminds me of last year when Allen Pollet (who runs an online gallery [YouCanBuyArt.com] -quite successfully it seems) participated at considerable expense in an internet fair here in Toronto - he mounted a display of paintings and prints which I helped with and contributed to - - we sold 1 small watercolour and 2 seasonal ornaments! It's a hard game to be in! I'm curious to know if any of you have been selling prints on the internet? We discovered that our insurance will cover the rental of an ozonator to rid the books and paper of that sooty smell. Thanks for the advice. So many fantastic art books were burnt in the fire but we managed to save about a dozen so will have them ozonated. Most of the paper and books were not able to be saved but at least a few are savable. Thanks Jeanne N ------------------------------ From: "Jeanne N. When I get to working again and get my press (hopefully in about 4 months), I will send you an extra special print for being so nice. We are still negotiating with the insurance people. Spending our days sorting throught sooty boxes of stuff, try to salvage what we can. (not much). Expect this cleaning bit to end in about a week and then David is going to set up a temporary place in the garage for me to work. Of course, no etching, just wood block and wood engraving. But at least I will be able to create something. Good days and lots of bad, but will get through it with such fantastic friends like you and many more in this group. Mike: set-back from local virus cost me last week-end when I expected to finish. I will do so this coming week-end (26-27th) and if the ink dries as usual, ship them to you mid week.
