And the theme is MUSIC! So wide open, the possibilities are endless. I noticed only 13 people have signed up, oh no, only 13 participants in the 13th exchange! Where, oh where, has everyone gone? I hope that's everybody. On the larger chisels, there is a ring on the end so that the hammer (if used) doesn't split the wood (at least that's my understanding of why it's there). On both my large chisels the rings slip right off. What is the best way to get these back on? Wood glue? On both my large chisels the rings slip right off. > What is the best way to get these back on? This is a 'winter' question Gayle ... the wood has shrunk in the dry air, leaving the ring loose. Here are five solutions for you: - - drive a wedge down into the top of the handle to split the wood apart a bit. This is the way that hammer-heads are also kept tight ... - - take the ring off and chuck it away (if you aren't using a hammer to drive the chisel) - - remove the ring and replace it with tightly wrapped strong cord. Many carvers here do this anyway; it makes the workshop a much quieter place - important when three guys in a row are sitting there carving ... - - soak the handle portion in water ... - - use a humidifier ... Would be glad to do a print for and exchange but music is not my thing hope the next one is an open subject. I guess I am not a music man. I respect the amount of work it takes to put an exchange together was not completely aware of that but I am not a babe in the woods. I will be putting the fireman prints together this week and they should be in the mail soon. Carol there are extra at this point if you need them for your show. Dan your will be in the mail first hope that is enough time. john center ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V18 #1708 *****************************
