Hi all

A quick note re MDF. Its manufactured board and I have heard
(somewhere, dont ask where) that it emits toxic fumes.
SOmething in the chemicals used in manufacture. So the
recommendation is to cut it outside and wear a mask. Or
something like that.

Which is what happens when you try to post an image to the
list. Please NO MORE!!! And while I'm at it, please dont
send html mail either, it does similar things. Use plain

Subject: [Baren 17103] waterbased inks, etc 

Deanna, I don't know where you're located, but Akua-Kolor works great for 
hanga-style woodblock printing.  It's waterbased and about as non-toxic as 
one can get with printing ink.  It's available at www.waterbasedinks.com.  
You can also use this ink for monoprints, and Susan Rostow, who makes these inks, 
apparently has recently developed an ink for intaglio printmaking which I have not yet 
tried. Alternatively, I also use Guerra pure pigments which come dispersed in water, 
which work great for hanga printing also.  Some people use them without adding anything 
(except for rice paste or methyl cellulose, which you mix it with on the block), I mix 
in a little bit of a mixture of gum arabic & glycerine - April, what is the percentage 
of mixture of these?  I'm not in my studio so I can't remember.  Deanna, feel free to 
email me offline with further questions, or if you're interested in contact info for Guerra.
As for the posts about experimenting, unfortunately email does not always convey the 
tone that is intended, and I apologize for possibly coming off as a materials snob 
or as inflexible.  I don't have any problem with experimenting with anything you think 
will work for you to make art, more power to you if MDF works for you.  To each their own.

Hello Carol!

Geez, here I just volunteered to do some updates on the website and there
you go sending juicy pictures to the list, is this a match made in heaven or
WHAT??
For the sake of keeping the digests from driving some folks insane, just
forward _me_ the pics and I will upload to the barenforum.org website under
Events and Activities. When they are all up there I will let the list know
in a _text_ email so they can go have a looksie.
How's that? Everyone happy? Then I've done my job for the day.

And since I'm on the topic, anyone else out there having an Event or
Activity WITH pictures (we are such visual critters), please send me info
and pictures. Right now it looks like Baren members have been dead for a
while and I know and you know that just ain't so. We are an active group,
no? Let's actively show the world that we do stuff and much of it.

That one is mine, I think.  And I know from experience that it is a bear to
scan because it is so subtle.  I never could get it to look the way it
