It sure allows the baren to slip nicely across the paper. In a pinch (for me that is all the time) I use a 3-in-1 (petroleum) oil to achieve the purpose. My felt resting pad where the baren parks during printing has become nicely covered so all I have to do now is rub the pad and I'm in business. If you don't use a protect piece of paper I would not us the petroleum oil. >I am an oily woodblock printer and use heavy 200 gsm papers and rarely do >an edition of less than 40 - 60.... I have been investigating papers again and think I have a found a cotton paper that is going to work very nicely for Hanga. It requires special preparation like running thorough a press first. At any rate I plan on having enough of this ready for the workshop so that we can put it through the acid test. You guys didn't know you was gonna be guinea pigs beyond Marnies cookin.... (Oh I'm in trouble ... again). The one thing I like is the off white colour of this paper. I also have a mess of other Japanese papers that I would like you look at and test. >well, still oily, until Graham "gets" to me again this Bootcamp! Maybe flexibility and compromise will be in order here Jan ..... I will get up oily and you go to Hanga .... Hey Richard Stockham, how about that one.... (<; (editors note: Richard was our pun ... oops fun.... artist at boot camp last year. Looking forward to more of the same this year buddy. Being in Mexico provides unique problems for getting supplies. Is airbore express a part of the US postal system? Pardon my ignorance but if I am to have an order shipped I need to know if I can recieve it at my post office or if I need to arrange to have someone at an address sign for it?? I will have it shipped to a place in the U.S. not here, that is a nightmare of its own, lol. I will find out for you on Monday. I think you can have it held at the post office, I will ask this also. I think you need to set this up in advance, though, unless you have a PO Box. They will hold stuff for a PO Box for about a week. We have suggested she purchases them and has them shipped directly here. A lot less hassle. So you may not have to spend any time on the matter. Graham >I think it is, but I am not sure. There is a company, just like Fed-ex and UPS, called Airborne Express which delivers packages, overnight letters, etc. It is not part of the US postal system. I did a google search and found the second reference, which displays beautiful historic woodcuts published in 1493. This book must have been a wonder and a treasure when it was published, as it continues to be.
