I would either ship them ahead of time to the hotel or Mike's studio (if he agrees to receive a bunch of packages containing knives!) or you can always check them in your luggage. Or you can ship them to someone who will drive. As long as I don't try to carry fruit through California, flowers through Colorado or go through the Boulder Dam with the trailer, I can get them there without being bothered [:-)] Maria <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Maria Arango Las Vegas, Nevada, USA http://www.1000woodcuts.com maria@mariarango.com <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ------------------------------ From: "marilynn smih" Date: Fri, 08 Mar 2002 08:19:15 -0800 Subject: [Baren 17376] Re: Baren Digest V18 #1752 Regarding this 2003 gathering, if I come alone i would camp on the floor with a pad. Ship them ahead, or pack them in checked luggage. You won't be allowed to carry them on. We'll arrange to pick air travelers up at the airport -- probably inconveniently, like be at Gate 6 in Terminal A at such and such a time. Either will work and shippping UPS you can insure them. No problem checking tools, just carring them on the plane. Don't check film these days!! Carving tools in it would not be an issue, however, because they are not accessable to the passenger in flight. I got stopped at security in Mexico City last month because I'd packed too many batteries for my camera! I'd gone on a battery buying binge before leaving home and had twice as many as I could possibly need. They said that I could only carry on as many as the camera actually required. I'm not sure what their issue was... I think it was that batteries could not be proven not to be little explosives. In any case, I was able to check the bag with the batteries. - Brian - Portland, Oregon, USA ------------------------------ From: GraphChem@aol.com Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 12:18:40 EST Subject: [Baren 17383] Re: Yes Glue I would be remiss if I didn't add that you can find Yes Glue at Graphic Chemical as well. Back to chine colle with hand pulled prints -the secret seems to be printing on dry paper - PVA glue works ok but the wheat starch adhesive is much nicer to work with - it's expensive tho' and the Yes glue sounds similar - I'm using waterbased inks right now - oilbased which I've been using for hand-coloured dont seem necessary. Thanks to Randi and Carol for suggestions - but surely Toronto has some Yes - -somewhere - I'll look for local bookbinders and printers before ordering from the West coast. J.N. Chase- your name was mentioned the other day when I was at Praga buying some stuff which comes from Grahic Chemical - what a small world! I'd had their printing inks years ago but now the estab. is so real to me. To my fellow Canadians - nothing much seems to be manufactured here does it? I wonder how we manage - when I lived in Greece (so much smaller comme pays) there was no end of wonderful materials to be found - even their stretchers were better and cheaper than here! Barbara - hasn't my little print for American Alliance arrived yet - it'll be 2 weeks tomorrow that it was mailed- Has the quota for the music print exchange (#13?) been filled yet?? One more item while I'm writing - I know there was a discussion re barens a while back but I can't remember if people liked the Teflon one - it seems as if the construction with handle and the weight would enable one to exert more pressure? Regards to all - I'm certainly enjoying and benefitting from the enthusiasm of all you 'bareners'! Louise Cass Louise Cass http://www.LCassArt.com ------------------------------ From: "Jeanne N. Yes, Praga was one of my inquiries re; printing presses. I now have about 5 catalogs of presses to go through. My ex press was an Ettan and I liked it very much, but now that I am without, I am looking into all of them for the future. I use rice paste for my chine colle and it works out very well. Who is going to be our Hanga expert at the Baren Bash?? I will be interested as I am an oily person but willing to learn. Tried it once and made a mess. Nothing like watching an expert. Jeanne N. PS. Still amazed at the professional looking prints in the last exchange. Frank is your guy. I have taken a couple of workshops and I was most impressed with his method of teaching and knowledge. Actually the last was not a workshop so much as a collaboration in my studio for 12 days.... It was a window in my life that will be with me forever.... He taught me drypoint and I taught him all I know about malt scotch.... Regards Graham ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V18 #1753 *****************************
