After several emails between us, Graham and I set up a date in May for our exchange with the theme being "The self-portrait." In the mean time, Graham sent me some multi-color woodblock prints that his students (age 16 - 19 years old) had done. I was able to post them on our schools web site for all to see. The web site is. http://www.jesuitportland.com/visualart.shtml The students did an awesome job and we at Jesuit are proud to post them. The theme of their work is based on the movie "Metropolis" " Hi Maurice This is great news! Graham was the co-ordinator of the Open print exchange on Print Australia last year. He and his colleague Marty Vreede both have works on the Print Australia website for viewing if you would like to see more. It seems very, very close to Rodin's most famous sculpture, The Thinker (1880). BTW, "Darwin's Ape" is on clearance special ! I think Ramo's little twist makes it that much more clever. Cheers ...... This led us into a new friendship, which developed into StoneMetal Press' Current print show in San Antonio. Black Printmakers in Houston: The John Biggers Legacy that opened February 1st, and in now being extended through March 24. Dr. John Biggers died last year, but left a generation of Black artists behind through his teaching. Biggers is featured in many museum collections and textbooks. Primarily a painter and muralist, he also was involved in printmaking. Charles Criner, now the resident printer at the Museum of Printing History in Houston, helped us arrange to show the work of Dr. Biggers, Harvey Johnson, and himself. Our little studiio is really developing a following of collectors because of our exhibitions. The next show will be Will be another great one, Biron Valier of Australia. If any one comes through the San Antonio area, let me know, we can always arrange to give you a studio tour outside of regular hours... I also taught etching using a nail to etch plastic and then used Speedball waterbased ink to print in a press. Your positive attitude will be very important to them. Also they like xeroxed handouts. Summer school is more relaxed than regular school, from what I have seen. Continuation school means smaller classes, less pressure, less competition. Howard and I are still talking about what we will do this summer, if I don't get a job teaching summer school. Hopefully we can visit both Vancouver and Missouri. I finished my big print last week and I'll mail it somehow this week. Also the smaller 911 print to Barbara Mason. I decided to go to the Baren Forum Exchange site which has the posts of all the previous exchanges, when I noticed that in all the exchanges you participated in, your prints are "removed". What's up? Why are all your prints gone? I thought as a part of the "group" and your experience, yours were the first Hanga ones I looked for, but they are gone. Why are yours not a part of the Baren pages?
