I've only picked up a few copies at newstands, sometimes it's good, sometimes not. they do have a website: http://www.artonpaper.com sometimes the best magazines are the ones published by the print councils... jim- On 5/8/02 10:27 PM, "Charles Morgan" wrote: > Barbara, thanks for the frank response. > > Are there any other magazines that contain significant information about > printmaking that anyone would recommend??? > > Cheers ........ Printmaking Today is a solid little pub. I enjoy it although it is a UK pub with emphasis on UK. By the time I get my copy most of the deadlines for calls for entries are long gone. Still a good read. Printmaking Today Cello Press Limited Office 10 spinners Court' 55 West End Witney Oxon OX 28 INH United Kingdom Art On Paper is my favorite, sorry to disagree with Jim B. One of the only magazines I enjoy reading cover to cover as soon as it hits my mail-box. www.artonpaper.com Contemporary Impressions pub by the American Print Alliance is a good publication, sometimes a bit stuffy for my taste but definitely a good read. www.printalliance.org If you are into wood engraving, I highly recommend the Wood Engravers Network with the publication "Block & Burin" and the Society of Wood Engravers with their publication "Multiples." A charming pub on wood engraving also with U.K. emphasis but lovely nonetheless. Both accessed through http://www.woodengravers.net/ If you are looking for sources for calls for entries for printmakers can be found in Art Calendar, Art Deadlines, and Art Deadline (talk about shameless scooping of trade name). Of those, Art Deadlines, the original, is my favorite and has the most opportunities for works on paper. Once you start entering competitions, you will get showered every year through direct mail as well. All those in: http://1000woodcuts.com/links.html click on My Favorites and scroll down to Ops. Cello Press Limited/Printmaking Today 99 - 101 Kingsland Road London E2 8AG United Kingdom I've written several articles for them, so I think they're great. I wrote one a few years ago on Japanese woodcut, then one on digital printing, and also a review of Rebecca Salter's book on Hanga. And besides my own fabulous articles, I find many other interesting items: I like it being more international in outlook. That inches to centimeters thing stretches the brain! Art on Paper is probably more serious, with excellent coverage of prints and work on paper, but it's focus is on the finished work, not on technical information. Maybe it is just those particular issues and I will be more excited about it in the future...I didn't mean to say it was not good, just more geared toward the UK.
