Baren Digest Monday, 3 June 2002 Volume 19 : Number 1849 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Bull Date: Mon, 3 Jun 2002 07:04:36 +0900 Subject: [Baren 18226] Message from Scotland ... Message is from Barbara, Wanda & Sharri ... *** We spent the first day wiring the show, however some of us spent it sleeping, namely Sharri and Wanda, who say they are the smart ones. I however, toughed it out and stayed up. The next day Wanda's suitcase finally arrived so she didn't have to wear those sweat pants to the opening....Actually she had nice pants. We hung the show for Greg who was running around like a chicken with its head cut off doing something important, or not. We had a good opening and 31 prints sold. 25% of the sales go to Marie Cure Cancer Center so a good cause. We went out for American style pizza after the opening with Greg and his wife Lianne and had lots of fun. Greg looked pretty tired and deservedly so as it was a lot more work than he anticipated. He stained and oiled all the frames as well as matted and framed the work. Gayle, Greg used your piece for the invitation and it was lovely. We have had the bus tours of the city and today toured the Castle...quite a site. We are exhausted! but happy and seem to be over any jet lag. We have lots of days left so we plan to do our duty to the Scottish economy and leave a little american money here. Thought we were going to have to buy Wanda a new wardrobe, but were saved at the last minute....I think she was disappointed. Best to all, Barbara ------------------------------ From: Charles Morgan Date: Sun, 02 Jun 2002 16:00:55 -0700 Subject: [Baren 18227] Re: hear ye you exchange junkies! I sent this query yesterday, but it did not seem to appear, so I am sending it again: Well, as usual, I have a question. The rules state "woodblock", and the only exception noted is lino. I presume plywood is O.K. But, am I allowed to enter if I am carving MDF? Just thought I had better check. Cheers ...... Charles,...I use MDF all of the time on these exchanges with no one yelling at me so far. Anything that is carved, any relief print, will be acceptable I believe. You'll find the very informative and useful. When you have some time, wander around. David has created quite a resource for woodblock printmakers! On the opening page you'll find an area to answer your questions about exchanges. Once you have an idea of what's happening you'll also find a place to sign up. I'm glad that you found us! Unless I hear to the contrary, I will rely on your experience. Cheers ...... Great prints. I build my own frames and it was good to see John's. So different from the usual rectangle or square. A book on frame making (if you are into that sort of thing) I would recommend is "Step-By-Step Framing" by Eamon Toscano, first published in 1971. I found my copy at a second hand book fair about 10 years ago. Very good for the beginner, if you can get hold of a copy.
