Baren Digest Friday, 7 June 2002 Volume 19 : Number 1853 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Maria Arango" Date: Thu, 6 Jun 2002 20:45:38 -0700 Subject: [Baren 18239] Carol in Vegas Well, dear bareners, I had the immense pleasure this week of meeting our Carol Lyons and her lovely family on their visit to L.V. I picked them up at the airport and, although they passed the international security points with no trouble, she miserably failed the baren-security-test and could not identify a piece of bamboo sheath that I showed her. Tobacco leaf indeed! [:-)] Anyhow, we had fun. I showed her around my messy studio and gave her the grand tour of our humble abode (the wolves were welcoming but intimidating, so we didn't spend a lot of time outside). She showed me some absolutely enchanting watercolors that she brought and also some abstract woodblock prints. For a minute I thought she was going to try to steal my boxwood rounds, but I watched her carefully and I'm pretty sure she didn't. Very neat experience and a very neat lady, a must meet for every barener but watch out for the overflowing energy! We had lunch and chatted about Baren folk and New York and art and stuff. I wish I could have taken her back to the airport but I had to go out of town briefly so I missed her departure. It's a neat experience to meet someone in the flesh after "hearing" them talk on the email for a long time. You really feel you know someone already. That's my side of the story anyway, Maria <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Maria Arango Las Vegas, Nevada, USA http://www.1000woodcuts.com maria@mariarango.com <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ------------------------------ From: Pgiclas@aol.com Date: Fri, 7 Jun 2002 00:32:01 EDT Subject: [Baren 18240] Re: David Hockney Regarding the camera obscura, there is an incredible one in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is on the roof of a tall building and one can stand beneath it and see a 360 degree of the outside world.
